I used a stretched fingertip grip for several years. A while back, I started having some pain in my ring finger joint.
I went and had a ball drilled for a more relaxed grip and that seemed to cure the problem. I toyed with having a dropped ring finger (sarge easter grip), but decided to just shorten the span a bit overall.
Once I got used to the feel and started to feel "normal" with it, now my old stuff feels like its a mile too long, even though we only shortened the span 1/8 inch.
I went from 4 3/8 X 4 1/2 to 4 1/4 X 4 3/8. Didn't change the pitches on anything either, just the span.
Oh, and as for DrRevs take on conventional drills killing your ability to score? Glenn Allison, who shot bowlings first "official" 900 series and was a touring professional, used the conventional grip for as long as he bowled and it didn't seem to affect his ability to score.
