Interesting.  In theory it should probably heat the oil trapped in the ball without really heating the solid materials.  Worst case is that you boil the oil or other moisture in the ball and it cracks from not being able to expand fast enough.

If it wasn't 20 degrees outside, I would haul our microwave outside, plug in an extension cored, and give it a try. WTF...I need a new microwave anyhow since the digital display is junk, right?! I bet if the ball had some oil in it, the coverstock would crack, and then melt. Maybe I could drill a hole to the center and drop a little bit of ice in the hole. Then fill with ball plug. That just might make the bomb we are looking for, since the ice will melt and give the oven the water it is looking for inside the food...er...ball.
