Poor bowling ball...

Things have come a long way since he bought that press!

That looks just like the drill press we have in our local shop except that the table is worn out on ours.

At least we have a shopvac

The 2nd Video is the BEST!

Watch him use a Hacksaw to cut the Thumb Slug off instead of a Router! This happens at the 4:55 mark!

Guys,

Up until a couple of years ago, they used a flat rasp to work down plugs/slugs here.

That video isn't all that far from how I've had to do things back when I was working in the shop here. They finally got a router to work down the plugs/slugs, but still have the same old drill press.

You should see MY drill press. It works, but it is even older than that one, and has an old A.M.F. bucket type jig with angle markings on the outside indicators. It hasn't been used in years, but I ran it the other day and it still works.

A Shop Vac would be helpful, but my driller uses the same type of set up, works just fine.  My problem is how far was he trying to drill that hole.  Tell me the weighting of that ball isn't all messed up.

I apologize for my previous post, I should have waited until I realized what he was trying to do.  As one who does not use thumb slugs I forgot about that possibility.

My driller however does not need the entire bottle of glue to hold the slug in place.  He drills the slug BEFORE cutting down the remainder.  It is far easier to cut down with a utility knife the part remaining above the surface and then put the ball up against the buffing wheel (like you do for finger inserts.  Never seen anyone cut a thumb slug down and THEN drill.

Video 2 was so painful I'm going to go lay down.  Now I have officially seen everything...
