So I get our association enews and there's another bomb dropped. Youth will now be paying $2/center they bowl in. Where as the adults stay the same format....for now. Adults pay local dues just once to the association and be able to bowl in any center within that association. But youth will now be paying by center. Since we have 5 centers that offer youth leagues, a youth could potentially be paying $25 a year for sanctioning fees, depending on how many centers they want to bowl in.

Not sure what the normal fee was, but if it is $2/center and there are 5 centers in your area, wouldn't that be $10 total?

I don't know what area your in but I just got our Youth papers and sanction went from $12 to $20 this year for the Northern Virginia area. Absolutely ridiculous if you as me. The USBC keeps charging more money and giving less awards. Our local association here (Upper Shenandoah Valley), just made all their awards once in a lifetime, my thing is fine ill pay you once in a lifetime too. Its an absolute joke!

I know I keep sounding like a commercial, but the USBC is about more than awards.
They are the governing body - insuring rules of play, consistency of lanes (physically, at least), foul lights, etc...
They also insure your league fees, and make it so that people can't rip you off.
I personally think $20 per year is a bargain.

I can see $20 for youth as long as they have awards for them. It isnt near as important for me as an adult to get the awards but that is something that kids look forward to.

The problem with the USBC is not the dues, it's the fact that they keep raising the dues as they cut back on benefits, and not to mention the fact, the USBC has generally sucked at doing their job of promoting, and policing the sport. Sandbagging is rampant, membership and league bowling is way down, scores are out of control, etc... This is what they are supposed to be controlling, and they've dropped the ball completely. Then they cut benefits and want more money? The price is a fair price, the problem is the money is going to an organization more ineffective and incompetent than the government.

Well the first sanctioning fee for the 1st league has the first $2 in it. The initial $17. So, in our case there are 4 remaining centers in which you (as a youth) could bowl a sanctioned league. That's $8. :-)

Sorry your local association is probably a lot like ours. Running in the red each year since the merger. Local awards (and we have many emblems) are expensive. I just ordered 300 sour apples for our association. We went through over 300 last year (we had some left over from the men's association that we used up first). The patch costs us over $2 a piece.

Let's not forget that USBC has reinstated all of the youth awards that were removed in the past..
