Youth Question
« on: November 21, 2005, 08:06:02 AM »
I know that youths aren't allowed to bowl for money and all that stuff, but a local radio station is having a contest at a bowling alley in a mall where if you bowl the highest for that night, you win a pair of tickets to a concert.  If I go there and win, will this jeopardize my junior status?  I don't want to bowl it if it could wind up screwing me over in the end, but I figure it's not sanctioned competition, and it's not for cash, so I'm not sure what the ruling would be.

Rule 400 2 b....If the award or prize is over $50.00, then you're sunk. If I were you, I'd see what the tickets are selling at the box office or where ever you buy them. If you win, more than likely no one would say much, BUT, if they wanted to and it's over the dollar amount, you're in violation, sorry, it's the rule and I just read them, I didn't make it.

Look under "Rules", just have to scroll down a bit. I have them printed in a book form, easier to find and larger print ( I'm old...hard to read smaller print !)

You should be able to ask your local representative at the center about the rules and if they do not know contact Greendale and bowling headquarters.  Also the USBC is not the only ones to worry about.  You will need to contact your, it's UIL  in Texas, University Scholastic League or equivalent and make sure their rules.  The ladies may also need to worry about the NCAA.  They have rules regarding prior activities.

Little add on.  Ebonite tried to give every high school student in Dallas a bowling ball.  They valued them at $35.  Violated the UIL rules and got shot down.

Well, the thing is in the very near future, and there wouldn't be time to contact that.  It's in a house where the lanes aren't even sanctioned, because they're shorter lanes.  Pretty cool place to bowl though.
