Need a drilling idea...
« on: October 09, 2012, 01:59:41 PM »
I'm looking for a way to tweak my layout or pitches or span to help make it easier to stay behind the ball longer. I have a tendency to come around it too quickly, and in general too much. Anyone have any tips that might help? Thanks in advance.

I have a suggestion outside of grip and layouts. When you feel your release is coming too much off the side of the ball, practice the feel of the leading the release with the ring finger. A good visualization of this is to practice a follow through, where the ring finger is the finger pointing closest to you. When you get your hand around the ball, the closest finger pointing to your body would be the index finger (dependent on how you follow through). Leading with the ring finger would be forcing your palm to stay up the back of the ball a good deal. To really force the feel of the ring finger being more involved, practice having your ring finger tap your head through the follow through. Hope that helps and I didn't confuse anyone, my wording can be a bit off at times lol.

No your description wasn't confusing for me, and I appreciate the help. I'll give that a try.
