Youth rule regarding age
« on: May 14, 2009, 02:05:22 PM »
Not sure I understand the rule regarding youth bowling and age. I turn 19 in September. Does that mean I have one more year, or two more seasons?

If you turn 20 by Aug. 1st you are an adult.  My understanding is that you have one more year.

Mind you this is so hap hazard that there's no telling what rules they will come up with in the next year.  The following year, you will not be eligible for winter youth bowling.

The guy that runs our junior scratch organization said it's 19 before August 1st.

You're allowed to turn 20 after August 1st and still bowl as a Youth that season.  You turn 20 in September of 2010 which is after August 1st, so you would be able to bowl the 10-11 season as well.

Call USBC's 1 800 number.  After all they deserve to be somewhat harassed for the disenfrisement of the older youth they've created with no warning.

Like a lot of things USBC does with youth this causes all kinds of stir.  Everything from what I understand will be final on August 1st.  They are still working some issues.  The problem is that most of the world has different standards than what we do in the US.  USBC is trying to standardize with other sports and countries.  Unfortunately it's like throwing cold water on people with no warning.  Oh by the way we are going to do this!  Guess we'll no more after the summit.
