Scoring when bowling on your own v bowling in league
« on: May 12, 2010, 12:28:07 AM »
Anyone experience bowling fantastic, or at least considerably better when bowling on own (in phantom league) compared to bowling in traditional 3 or 4 man team league??

I must admit, I love bowling on my own, get into my rhythm, score well, when it comes to my league, seem to be sitting around most of time, bowl average.. Does this happen to anyone out there?? Love your thoughts on this one??

That should be a given.  Fresh lanes, no one messing up the line, line holds up longer, no need to make adjustments.  Bowling faster easier to get in a groove.

During league you have 9 other people throwing equipment all over the place, 5 minute wait inbetween shots, pattern breaks down fast, have to adjust every couple of frames.

I typically bowl better during open bowl.  Nothing better than getting on a pair of lanes after the kids have spent the entire day throwing plastic all over the place!  For some reason I struggle on a fresh shot.

At another center across town it is the opposite.  I bowl better after they run the machine.

Not sure if it's a difference in lanes, oil, pattern, or what, but it's very frustrating.

Yeah, I don't know of anyone that wouldn't bowl better when there aren't 8 to 10 people burning up the lane with super soakers. Nevermind the rhythm bowling alone allows you to get into. We are actually running a 32 person king of the hill PBA experience league this summer so that should allow for some pretty good scores.

On the hosue shot I don't really score any differently, the only difference is going at my own pace (faster than most 5 man teams go but not too fast) helps a little and at times I can maintain a slightly better rhythm and on occasion can credit it to bowling better.

I usually score much better when bowling alone or with the family. But, this past weekend, we got on a pair and it was all I could muster to bowl a 194 high game. Over/under and about 20 7 ot 10 pins in 5 games. Nothing in the ball would carry. A nightmare. Got good practice on maintaining balance and hitting my mark though.

I think this is one of the main reasons that we're losing a lot of 5-man teams around here.  Nobody wants 10 players on a pair burning up "their" shot.  Now we see a lot of 3-man or 4-man teams.  The shot holds up longer and the pace is faster which seems to produce higher scores.  Sort of pathetic I think.

I'm not worried about my shot burning up, but I do prefer my 4-man team to a 5.  I like the faster pace.  I come to the bowling alley to bowl, not to sit around and BS or to get away from the wife/gf for the nite.

My scores tend to be more inconsistent when I practice.  Sure I'll bowl more 240+ games, but I also shoot a lot more 160 games.  And I'll follow a 240 with a 160 more often practicing alone than I do in league.

when bowling on my own, i dont really look at scores, but if i did, with one game warm up, i average about 10 to 15 pins higher than on my league av

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.

We have all now been called morons by the mechanic at a bowling alley.

Personally, I like the slower pace a 4 or 5 man league offers, but not having the fluffers soaking up my precious oil with their sponges is a bigger factor for me...

I would like to see more 4 man teams in tournaments.

The reason being is, it is easier to get teams together. With just one 5 man team someone is missing a doubles partner. So you have to get two 5 man teams together which isn't always easy.

4 man teams get done faster, and for tournaments makes it easier for setting up singles/doubles.
