Call the ABC.  A good place to start.

And be ready for low membership.  House hacks are generally not willing to submit their individual egos to the talent required for sport shots.

Thanks Pin-nut,

Actually i am looking for suggestion outside of ABC, like experience something like that.

And true, I tried to talk a 200 avg bowler to join the sport league last night, and the first thing he say is....."I have worked so hard to get the 200 avg, I  am not going to give it up with this shot, I dont know how to do this shot...."

Its ok, I think I can pull enough bowlers to start a sport league.

I joined a SPORT league this summer for my first experience. I'm not bowling average .. but I'm sure enjoying it. I hope they continue into the WINTER season .. I doubt that they will! I'm learning quite a bit .. look forward to the league every week!

Hope you get enough bowlers .. lots of luck!

We have two sport leagues in my area.
I also wish they would carry over into the winter season but i know that headcount
will be the big problem.
Not enough bowlers willing to take a hit on their average to improve their game.
I really enjoy these sport leagues.

The Sport League I'm in has a 4 game format.  1st 2 games are a position round.  2nd 2 are regular league rotation.  The reason for this format is so the lower teams get 2 games against another lower team.  The cost is $26/week.

In the summer, they put out a slightly easier shot than in winter.  What's really funny is the guys were complaining the shot was too easy, so they have put out a more difficult shot the last few weeks.  I goes to show there are bowlers who like the challenge.

Another Sport League in the area has a 4 game format with the 1st game a position and then 3 games in regular league rotation.  I don't know what the charge is for that league.

This summer is the first time I have bowled a sport league.
The format is 4 weeks on each shot.
For some reason, the league voted to only bowl 3 games, even though it's only doubles, so we don't get to see too much transition.
Cost is $20.
I LOVE IT!!!

Just one more comment .. My league also bowls a THREE GAME weekly format .. after bowling 5 sessions I believe expanding the number of games each week to FOUR would be a GOOD IDEA. I'm going to recommend that when the group has it's next meeting!

On edit: We pay $10 a week!

One idea I am going to explore this season is to simply run the sport shot for about 8 weeks, from early September through the end of October.  6 weeks may be fine too to end in mid-October.  The center should give coupons to their leauge bowlers to come out and give it a shot.  The center should also supply coaching from the area's best sport or PBA shot bowlers to help give instruction to those who are struggling.  Just throwing people out on a sport shot is a bad idea, but throwing them on it and helping them to learn (when they have shut their brains off for several years on the THS) can make for a more fun experience.

Then start the league maybe the week after that 6-8 week practice sessions.  Run 2 12-week halves to the season or 2-14 week halves.  You may have enough bowlers to get one going now, but why not try to recruit others by giving them a chance to try it out and learn at it first for a few weeks.  They might get hooked!  (no pun intended

My sport league is a ten week season.  We're bowling on four different patterns for the duration.  We bowl a three game set (moving after each game) and then the totals are calculated and we bowl a head-to-head two game match for 30 bonus points going to the two-game-match winner.  We bowl 5 games per night total.  Cost is $25.00 per night.

We have a nice guy who tapes our lanes every week, but doesn't bowl because he's on a different sport league one county over.

GREAT IDEA Brian
(Michigan Bowling),
Giving people a chance to try it out.
Might just work.
Our Sport league is a doubles league. we bowl 4 games. 3 regular games and then the 4th game is a baker game for bonus points.
This league is a 12 week league. We bowl on 4 different lengths 37,39,41 and 43.
