Simply put, are they really worth the gamble of buying? Sounds like caveat emptor applies.

For the most part, there is nothing technically wrong with a 2nd that would affect the performance of the ball. 2nds can include:

porosity (small pits in the shell)
engraving error (stray lines on the logo, etc)
color issues (half/half balls, extreme phasing)
high top weight
pin-cg-mb offset

2nds are no more prone to cracking or core separation or anything like that compared to firsts. The biggest issue people will see is finding an acceptable layout for them if the top weight is too high or the pin-cg-mb are way too far out of line.

I love 2nds, have had many honor scores with them. the Half and halfs look pretty wild going down the lanes as well. you use to be able to pick 2nds up all the time pretty easy but I guess those days have changed with tecnol. getting much better

if you really think about it, who really cares if the engraving has a flaw or the pin is more than 4.5" or the color is not quite mixed right or even if it has the cg kicked a little more than normal. the ball still does what it needs to do and that is KNOCK down the PINS

plus they use to be almost 1/2 the price as a 1st quality ball I said use to be lol
