300 with MoRich RipR
« on: July 09, 2011, 10:10:26 AM »
Pretty good summer so far. I rolled my first 300 game in the 20-teens. I had a chance to sub in a 4-person match point scratch league in what is normally, a good scoring house. Started out with a MoRich mania and found the shot playing much flatter than what I expected. Leaked a ball outside to 5 and watched it take out the 6-9-10 in the first frame. Came into ten and watched it go high. Generally searched around for a few frames just filling frames. Watched the team stroker pipe the ball up nine, keeping the ball around the pocket. So I switched to my pin down MoRich RipR and worked the 12 to 8/12 to 9 area. Struck on 3 of 4 final shots in the first game. Then proceeded to flush the first 11 shots in the second game. I leaked the 12th ball out to 6 or 7 at the break point but it made it back to a low mixer strike to finish out the 300. A little more satisfying considering the session league average was 10 pins below the league season average for the night. All told, this was my fifth sanctioned 300: One in the early 80's with a Yellow Dot, one in the early 90's with a Teal Rhino Pro, two in the late 00's with a GameBreaker and LM/L Black Diamond, and now one in the 10's with a RipR. Both the Black Diamond and the RipR were layed out using dual angle layouts. Special thanks to Mo Pinel as my current equipment rolls better and more consistently than any I've ever rolled.

MoRich mania: 25x4x25, P4, P1500
MoRich Craze: 40x4.25x40, P3.5, P2000
MoRich RipR: 45x4.5x40, P3, P2500

MoRich Perpetual Motion: 60x3.5x30, no hole, P3000
MoRich Frenzy: 45x4.5x50, P3, P3000
MoRich Mojave: 60x4.75x50, no hole, P4000

MoRich Spare, label negative, no hole, P4000

Congratulations on your 300 game.  Nice bowling adjustment (and paying attention) to get there.  Was your Yellow Dot a bleeder?

Way to go!

Mo needs to come to my town for a clinic.  I would love to see if he would change anything in my grip.  I would buy a Morich ball on site and have it drilled to whatever layout he suggested.

Bleeder, yes! It started out as a carmel pearl but now looks more like a solid brown. I kept all of my 300 and 800 balls. (Not good enough to have a huge impact on closet space ;) I switched from 16 lbs to 15 lbs a few years ago, so I don't roll the YD or Teal RP any more. They just sit on the shelf alongside a green Randolph Classic Technika II acrylic two-piecer and a Manhattan Rubber Pro Maker to remind me how much the game has evolved.

I wish I was a little closer to Mo Pinel land (back east in WVa) but the desert AZ is a few days drive away. He's one prime example of someone who has probably forgotton more than I'll ever know about the sport. If you look in on bowlingchat dot net once in a while, Mo's upcoiming clinics, dates and locations are easily available.

Yeah, I visit bowlingchat from time to time.  Most of his clinics are too far for me to travel to.  He did come to MN last year I think, and I couldn't make it.  I'm really bummed that I missed out on that!  Hopefully he comes back again soon...
