Hi there to the MoRich experts,

just another question concerning the S&A: MoRich claims the surface finish to be "Compound", but there is no other surface prep. information available.

Since the S&A coverstock is Activator+, can somebody tell me which surface this is? Is it a Rough Buff finish (Absolute Inferno) or a high gloss finish? Or even something else, liek older Brusnwick balls which feature a single buff or doulbel buff compound finish?

I'd guess it was Rough Buff. Brunswick usually follows their own guidelines for their coverstocks out of the factory. My S&As have had that funny semi-polished/semi-compounded look that Rough Buff seems to give. I like mine shined a bit; so I do that before initial use.

Thank you, Charlest. I thought in the first place that it would be some polish (like the Intense Inferno), but the "compound" confused me. I ordered a S&A and I am curretly waiting for the shipment - and because it is supposed to fit "under" my XXcel for medium conditions I am afraid that the Rough Buff finish might have too much early traction so that I would ask my pro shop to polish the ball up?

That's what I fear, too. My friend has an AI in box condition, and it is a very good ball which can be kept in play for a long time. But I am afraid that the RB surface could be too much, at least to keep it "below" my Xxcel which needs some long medium oil to work fine for me. I think I'll test the S&A in box condition out (just to get a feel of what it is capable of), but I am afraid that it will need some polish to do the things I want it to do. Thank you Inverted1 for the hint!

I have polsihed mine from the out of box condition to use it on medium to medium-light oil patterns. With your stroker/mild tweener, I wouldn't change the surface until you try it at least twice. Then either polish or, if you have Rough Buff, try finer grits plus re-application of RB, as Inverted suggested.

With all the Brunswick people talking about suffering from over/under when they polished their Absolute Inferno, I am surprised I saw none of that with the S&A, which has the same cover, as far as I know.

Thank you charlest. I have a very experienced driller at hand, and he knows what I want the ball to do. I will try it out onm several lanes in box condition, just to get a feel for it.

I have a friend's AI as a benchmark, and I have seen what the RB surface can do and what not - that made me a bit nervous about the S&A's performance which I thought to be more like the II because I did not know that it had a RB surface.
Well, I'll test and see. And post a(nother) looong review about it

Keeping the core/cover dominance argument in mind...maybe the stronger core of the S&A helps w/ over-under?

When Mo helped me set up the drill on my S&A when I met him about 5 months ago, he had it polished up to 1000 abralon.

Flare would help would over/under and the AI flares a whole bunch and has a pretty strong core. I figure they polished it without thinking and just used it on too much oil. A lot of Brunswick fanatics don't check into what the ball's supposed to do. They often seem to just buy a new Brunswick ball and assume it will be a new oiler - they expect everyone to be a Danger Zone. I was like that at one point in time with the D2Z. Of course I couldn't find out what it was supposed to do. Brunswick just said it was a great ball ...

The core and the drilling option of a strong mass bias are the reason why I settled on the S&A insteda on an Inferno line ball. I hope to get a setup with good length and a continous backend. The AI I know is too rolly for my personal taste and style, and my driller is a very god man who knows his trade. He made other asymmetrics like my Xxcel, a TPC Player and TPC Shooter, do marvelous things for me. The core is the key.
