Awesome Flip
« on: February 08, 2007, 12:51:45 AM »
HEY GUYS!

I've got an Awesome Flip at the shop waiting to be drilled. I was just wanting some thoughts and comments on this ball. I also have a few questions as well!

1) What do you think of it?
2) Does this ball give a flip reaction shape? If not, what type of reaction shape?
3) Where will it fit in the arsenal? (Check out profile for arsenal)

Thanks guys in advance and God Bless You All!

Never thought I would see this day coming....

However, let me answer your questions.

This ball FLIPS when there is enough dry on the back to let this ball work. Get some carrydown, and it becomes squirty (for me).

I would compare this ball to the Power Machine. Both are pearl resins, but the PM is a higher grit....overall, both have strong cores and strong covers.

Ball worked great on mediums and drier conditions (lefty-did not get to throw any righty) but carrydown was an enemy....

1) Strong pearl reactive, Activator+ from Brunswick with a finer OOB finish than Brunswick uses.

2) If you drill it to do so... YES! For the dramatic look on the lane, this is a good choice. Hit and carry of this (and all Vanguard coer balls) is very good, too. But the ball needs some dry boards to grip and work. Spotty shots and carrydown are not its home turf (it is a pearl ball, after all). Coverstock is easy to fine tune, but has IMHO only a small "window" which strongly influences grip. Changing the compound finish only to 4.000 grit Abralon can make the ball read the lane 4-5' earlier!

3) I cannot watch your vids and you do not provide spped and revs. But for a "typical" player with 250-300 RPM and decent speed, I'd say it is OOB a very good medium condition ball. With lower speed, the ball will also handle medium to medium-oily shots, since it will need some (head) oil to work properly.

Overall: impressive piece, true high end for experienced players who have access to an experienced driller who can set the ball up properly (due to the strong MB in the core).

Michael,

1.The Flip is a great piece when used properly.  Think of an Exception on steroids,
a little earlier if at all than the PM based on drillings.  I see Mo's coming to your neck of the woods soon.  If you can wait until you see him in person and have him lay it out...Nothing better than the master at that.

2. One of the real neat features of the Vanguard core is it's versatility.  You can drill it several ways to get several distinct reactions.  I have two Flips - one with Mo's flip drilling - which goes sideways at 50' and one with a 3 1/2 x 5 mb x 3 above grip center - which is angular but more predictable, and a better  read of the midlane.

3. Because of the versatility, you can decide where to place it in your arsenal.  We have drilled some for customers as a 1st out in league to tourney/condition specific.  The cover is extremely tunable also...

Hope this helps,

Bill

Threw my AF for the first time last night and had a 259 out of the gate. First two frames were rough, but struck out the last ten.  I was looking for a ball with length, with a strong, yet predictable back end... I got it. I kept it in OOB finish last night, but im sure ill play with it a bit eventually. Ill thank the guys at The Bowlers Shop in Anderson, IN for the drilling.

I think the ball is incredible great on Meduim conditions and as long as there is dry to throw the ball into Flip will FLIP, probably like Clint said equivalent to your Power Machine or a touch stronger varying on drill pattrn

A little comparison for ya!
I have a Total NV and A /Flip drilled very sililar pin over bridge cg out 1 1/2" no hole. With that I get about 1-1 1/2ft earlier hook from the Nv and about 3-4 boards more flip in the backend from the Flip! I must say tons of backend and tons of hit!

good luck

HEY GUYS!

Thanks for the responses...I would like to say to VT that sometimes, things happen and it is just the right time to make moves and see what kind of other stuff is out there, take it like me 'thinking outside the box'...I've done it once before and I came back to Track...all I can say is that we'll see what happens! Thanks again and God Bless You All!

I understand but I just thought it was an ironic post after reading your sermon on the Track board...the only question is, after you finish "thinking outside the box", will there be a company called Track to come back to???  It's always good to have a backup plan...
