Awesome Revs
« on: October 16, 2007, 04:12:22 AM »
Got the ball, and never really liked it.  It just never really went for me.  Our House shot is lots of oil in the middle, but dry back ends.  Hit it with 1000 abralon, and it hooks early and dies.  Any suggestions?

Try 2000 or 4000? Maybe add a little polish?

Go to 2000, or 4000. Sounds like it is burning up. Then if the 2000 or 4000 pads don't work, use a matte finish style of polish. Then just go up from there if that doesn't work. I'm sure at 1000 the ball is just burning up energy.

Absolutely try using less surface or even polish if it's burning up.  You want to conserve as much energy as possible while still giving the ball enough friction to grab and turn the corner without being unpredictable.

For what it's worth, I LOVE my Awesome Revs.  I left it at the box finish.  A couple weeks ago, we had absolutely screaming dry back ends for some reason.  From 10 to the gutter was drier than normal, and inside 10 was pretty wet, but MAN those backends were screaming.  The oil just never seemed to carry down either.  I kept having to move left and left.  I finally stood left and played a pretty swing (for me, considering I don't hook the ball a ton), I also used a lot of forward roll, and the Revs and got a phenomenal reaction.  I dropped the ball off my hand in the 2nd frame and left the bucket and chopped it, and then struck off the sheet for a 266.  On a more "normal" night with a little slicker backends, I played the same breakpoint but stood five boards further right and shot a 300.  The ball gives me a good midlane roll, but just doesn't roll out.   It just keeps hooking!

On most lane conditions, my Revs has been the best ball I've ever owned.  It's very versatile and forgiving, but carries well on almost any shot except the extremes.  I haven't been able to use it much the past week or so though because the lanes have been really goofy in both my leagues (TONS of carrydown with an out of bounds to the right and scorched heads in the middle, for example) and I could not make the Revs carry the 10 -- hopefully that changes tonight and we get a more "normal" shot for a change.

2000 or 4000 Abralon.  If it is still burning up try Brunswick's Rough Buff or High Gloss polishes.  I have mine at 2000 Abralon and consider it a heavier oil ball.  It is good for about two games on a fresh pattern at my house and then you can see it starting to burn up.  Ball is pretty aggressive OOB so polish may be what you need.

Well, for what it's worth, all ten people on my pair of lanes last night used the same exact breakpoint, so we absolutely killed the oil pattern and burned up the oil last game (I had to move 10 boards left in one game alone!) and my Awesome Revs still didn't roll out.  When it hit pocket, it carried except for a couple blowout 7 pins and if I missed right the ball pushed long in the out-of-bounds and left a 10 pin.  I unfortunately had trouble hitting the pocket because the lanes changed so quickly.  If I stayed in the same place two frames in a row, I would go from flush pocket to leaving the Greek Church...

I understand how you feel on that.. Saturday morning I was playing with a bunch of rookies and kept burning up my breakpoint.. They were throwing old Icon300's sanded down to about 1000, and they were throwing two fingers with about 10 MPH ball speed. Ofcoarse they were playing were I was, and they were going from 10 board to hitting the 4 and 7.. I had 499 threw 2 and ended up bowling 204 the last game because my shot was so killed from the over/under and carrydown they were playing.. I had to play atleast two arrows of difference the third game...

So after some good advice from all of you, I had my pro shop operator polish the Revs.  First time with it, 268, 279, 199.  I lost my reaction the last game, and should have switched, but such is life.

Also on a side note, I figured out why I have been having so much trouble with this ball.  I attended a ball seminar hosed by Mo, and he explained the Dual Angle Drill.  After further inspection, the ball was drilled to hook early and hard.  Hence, why it seemed to burn up as soon as it hit the lanes.  Now I can better understand how to fix it for next time.

Any questions, feel free to message me.

It was great for control but, if you had to move deeper than 3rd arrow, forget about it. It is not going to recover. Also, it only worked well when you were up the back of it. If you came around the side of it, it would back up on ya. It was strange. For playing up the boards on crazy shots it was one heck of a ball, for anything else, leave it in the bag.
