Absolutely try using less surface or even polish if it's burning up. You want to conserve as much energy as possible while still giving the ball enough friction to grab and turn the corner without being unpredictable.
For what it's worth, I LOVE my Awesome Revs. I left it at the box finish. A couple weeks ago, we had absolutely screaming dry back ends for some reason. From 10 to the gutter was drier than normal, and inside 10 was pretty wet, but MAN those backends were screaming. The oil just never seemed to carry down either. I kept having to move left and left. I finally stood left and played a pretty swing (for me, considering I don't hook the ball a ton), I also used a lot of forward roll, and the Revs and got a phenomenal reaction. I dropped the ball off my hand in the 2nd frame and left the bucket and chopped it, and then struck off the sheet for a 266. On a more "normal" night with a little slicker backends, I played the same breakpoint but stood five boards further right and shot a 300. The ball gives me a good midlane roll, but just doesn't roll out. It just keeps hooking!
On most lane conditions, my Revs has been the best ball I've ever owned. It's very versatile and forgiving, but carries well on almost any shot except the extremes. I haven't been able to use it much the past week or so though because the lanes have been really goofy in both my leagues (TONS of carrydown with an out of bounds to the right and scorched heads in the middle, for example) and I could not make the Revs carry the 10 -- hopefully that changes tonight and we get a more "normal" shot for a change.
