Deciding on a Awesome Finiish....
« on: October 26, 2007, 09:10:34 AM »
But I want to know how well this ball compliments the Awesome Revs. I have a AR, pin about 5 1/4 from pap, mb about 5 from pap, about an inch from my thumbhole, pin right above bridge in the middle.  I even put some polish on it, and it still picks up early sometimes.  I also have a Shock & Awe, about 4" pin to pap, about 4 3/4 mb to pap, with some added polish, and it's been at times strong as well.  I've been told the Awesome Finish is longer than people thought, maybe a ball I'd throw in the 3rd game of league.  I throw slower, about 15-16mpg, rev dominant.  If I drill the Finish like my AR, can I expect a longer reaction, with still some recovery?

I would like to know the answer to VAbowlers question too because I have a Revs too and in the third game it gets too jumpy off the dry. So if i were to drill my Finish the exact same way would it get more length but still recover?

most deffinately, the finish will go longer and give you a huge back end, yes it will compliment the rev's or the levrg,,

My Finish is longer and stronger than my S&A Which has just a touch of polish on it

i have a FINISH and a S&A...Finish is for sure longer and stronger back end...the S&A has the an earlier back end with more snap...in my opinion the S&A is snappier but not as strong as the FINISH...(make sense??)...never thrown a revs but i cant even throw my FINISH most 3rd or 4th games...too much hook...

I also have both Finish and S&A, both drilled similar (pin above ring finger for length and flip). The Finish at OOB definitively goes much longer than the S&A - it is a back end monster that has very much length and then makes a determined jump to the pocket. I was surprised by this reaction - for a solid PK18 ball! It was at OOB best suited for straighter lines (between 2nd and 3rd arrow) and a little squirty for me, so I tinkered with the surface for a slightly earlier read and more back end continuation, to improve recovery from closer to the gutter. Very good ball for medium conditions or a THS. Not a super hooker, but it delivers well - late and dedicated.

The S&A, on the other side, reads the lane earlier for me, hooks earlier and a lot more. I can and must play much deeper line s with it - standing beyond 30tgh board with my feet and playing between 3rd and 4th arrow is no problem. It shows MUCH more midlane action, and, despite being a pearl, handles at OOB (Rough Buff) medium to medium-oily shots for me. It is a true step up from the Finish.

Both balls need from personal experience good head oil - the S&A due to its aggressive coverstock, the Finish due to its low RG.

Do you find you can stand deep with the AF?  I'm still looking to stand deep, but this ball will be when my AR is a little too strong and jumps too quick.  Mind you I have slow speed, around 15-16, rev dominant.  I remember when I first got my S&A, I had the mb on the trackside (pretty much a label drill), and while it wasn't a hook monster, it was super smooth, should've left it like that versus getting it redrilled like I did.  I always seemed to do well with label drills, mb on the trackside, I think it would be nice to put the MB of an AF like right under and left of my thumbhole, pin next to ring based on my stats.  But everyone says it's a no-no on Morich balls. Any opinions?

Can someone up the vid of the AF and LevRG with Fred Carroll?

With the Awesome Finish out of the box, I could only move deep either on totally fried lanes or if I'd take out speed. The ball was super long for me and did not cover lots of boards - due to its late breakpoint. It would truly go long and flip hard (ball was also drilled to do so, but it took the concept further than I expected!).

But I found that the Finish reacts very well to surface changes, once it is punched up. It is PK18 solid, after all, and very good-natured. Less itchy/aggressive than the Activator+ cover, and without polish it should (wild guess, since I haven't thrown a Revs) become more arcing and overall smoother - but the low RG core still delivers a good and hard punch at the breakpoint. It is an impressive combo, you can do a lot with this ball, but it takes an experienced player to exploit it - the Finish is the first ball that made me think that I still have to learn  a lot to use high end equipment properly

Thanks.  I plan on leaving the factory shine on it and putting a weaker drill on it, kinda like a label drill or having the mb right under the thumb, with the pin up and right, close to my ring finger.  I'm hoping it will be smooth on a THS, with a little umph to it when it hits the backends.

Can anyone upload the vid of the AF and LevRG that Fred Carroll did?
