How's your ball drilled? I still have an AFi in my arsenal, drilled 4.5x4.5 with the pin above the fingers and the MB next to the thumb hole. I had, in the beginning, big trouble with the ball - one problem were protruding engraving fillers which kept the ball actually away from the lane surface, but I had a hard time controlling it at the breakpoint, because it flipped so violently at the breakpoint. Carry way either a hit or miss, and I tried several surfaces (OOB, re-polished with Brunswick High Gloss, 4.000 Abralon, 2.000 abralon plus 3M's Finesse-It) to cope with this.
I found the ball, due to its low RG, to become pretty rolly with some surface. Remember that PK18 once was Brusnwick's high end oil coverstock, and it is not weak at all - it IMO rather does not react as quickly to friction than later materials. I found the best solution for me in the Finesse-It finish, because it allows the ball to glide through the heads well but show good traction and controllability at the break point.
Reaction-wise I also found that I can, despite its sharp angle of attack, only play the ball on a deep line when there's lots of outside friction -the classic THS. With flatter oil, I learned to play rather straight and reduce hook and side rotation thorugh hand position changes. The good thing about the ball is truly its core, which forces it through skid/hook/roll very quickly. If you can exploit this to control your entry angle into the pins, I'd assume that you get better carry, aside from surface issues. I think the Ravage is more forgiving in comparison, but the AFi is not a bad ball, nonetheless. It just takes more brains to use it properly - after all the inital trouble it was the first ball that made me think that the quipment is smarter than its user... But I made peace with the ball
