different statment I heard
« on: May 13, 2007, 06:45:25 AM »
At a recent bowling tournament I was shooting the breeze with a couple of guys we were talking about what ball to buy next, well they were talking about buying a Shift or Secret Agent. I said they should consider Mo's first ball with a new core and the younger of the two guys said this '' the only Problem with MoRich is that they burn up to early.'' I have never had this problem with MoRich gear. Have any of you guys heard the same thing? Am I missing something here?

Thanks for commenting, my jaw almost fell off when he said that.

I never had a problem with my MoRich balls so far - I do not consider them to be rolly. Only thing I found is that the Vanguard core balls use pretty aggressive coverstocks, so you will need some good head oil to work properly. But I would not blame this to be a ball "problem", rather a user problem when they use this strong equipment on inappropriate conditions?

IMO, Morich balls are rolly compared to about every other brand on the market. Also, IMO they are very strong balls that require plenty of oil. I have owned 2 Sahara's and I needed medium oil at the minimum for those. Of course I needed more oil for the other balls Mo has produced. If you didnt have at least medium oil, roll out/burn up was very possible. Also, Being that they are rolly by nature, I could not play left of 4th arrow with any Mo ball with the exception of the Ravage. This could be seen as some as burn up also. Even though I could play deeper with it, I still rather have a Roto or a Storm to play those sort of lines.

There is nothing wrong at all with Morich but, They have their characteristic moves just like every ball company. Unless you are a spinner, have high ball speed, have flying backends, need tons of midlane read, or have tons of oil, (or any combonation) there are better choices on the market. Personally, I like Mo's stuff for control, heavy oil situations, or playing more direct. Thats about it.

Most replies to this post have been reasonable, and lean in the right direction.

Unfortuantely most ball companies do not really describe new balls and the conditions for which they are best used. All they talk about is how good they are. This does no one, least of all bowlers, any good.

While it's true that mass bias balls can be made to do almost anything with drillings and surface changes, it is, MUCH MORE IMPORTANTLY, more true that all balls are designed around a basic premise: the condition for which they have been designed, FOR THE AVERAGE REV RATE BOWLER WITH AVERAGE BALL SPEED.

It is to EVERY manufacturer's fault that they do not advertise every ball they sell correctly: the exact and precise purpose for which it was designed. (Darned few balls are designed to be multi-purpose with one drill and the stock surface.)

Sigh .....

While I agree with just about everything stated above I feel I need to add something.

Alot of the responsibility should be placed on the shoulders of the pro shop operators. There are far too many pro shop operators that end up drilling everything leverage because it places the pin in a "safe" zone. Do this with an Awesome Hook and see how often a bowler can use it....or I should say most bowlers.
