Do I really need a Seek and Destroy?
« on: March 06, 2006, 05:57:21 AM »
I have WMB which I love. If the oil gets to heavy it wil skate a little.
Is the Seek and Destroy really that much stronger then the WMB? I can always get another WMB and get it drilled stronger and dull the cover to handle more oil, can't I? Or is there enough separation or difference in the the balls to justify buying a Seek and Destroy? Opinions please. There seems to always be a used WMB on ebay. I can probably pick one of them up cheap. Let me know what you think. Seeing Walter Ray throw it yesterday has almost made up my mind to buy one, but I'd like some objective opinions first. Thanks

You probably can drill another WMB stronger and get a stronger reaction.  I cannot answer this absolutely because I don't know what layout you have on the current one.  If you have a strong layout already, it may just be that with your style, the ball just isn't enough for heavy.  Drilled the same, the S&D should be stronger overall and have alot more backend.  The other thing, I'm not going to criticize you or anything, but just because any pro, especially WWJ made a ball look good does not mean you should get the ball.  They have much different patterns and often times exotic layouts customized for their game, especially walter, who is a full roller.

I have them both and I can honestly say that I loved my WMB and I can't find enough oil to use my Seek and Destroy. This ball is definitely stronger, but it all depends on how you prep the coverstock. Both my WMB and my Seek and Destroy have a "rough buff".

If you really need a ball for oil, you can't go wrong with the Seek and Destroy. The only ball I've thrown that is close is the Super Carbide Bomb. The bomb is my favorite oil ball.

Hope this helps.

Stronger cover, stronger core.......no problem going to a S&D. That's what I would do.......

Ballsdeep is correct in saying that it doens't matter what WRW does....you don't throw the ball like him, so what's the difference?

He is wrong though....WRW is NOT a full roller

Thanks guys. I usually play a line to the pocket similar to his. He seems to play outside most of the time. Its not just him either, I like the way Duke, and Voss throw the ball to. Thats the line I play with my WMB. Anyway, I think I will go for it and get a Seek and Destroy. Thanks again.

Yeah, full roller is the wrong term, high tracker that throws the ball unlike anyone I've ever seen is more what I meant.  It could still be a great ball for you, just the variables I've meantioned before create a situation in which, how a ball reacts for a pro, should not be a determining factor in your ball choice.  Good luck.

S& D is stronger than the WMB.  Overall, more hook and more motion on the back of the lane.  Hope this helps.
