Drilling the Awesome Finish
« on: September 02, 2007, 02:50:24 PM »
I just picked up my first MoRich ball, the Awesome Finish and I am pretty excited to get the sucker drilled up.  Looking at the drill sheets they don't have specific places for the CG, just CG zones.  This is a good thing as the MB is way off line in location to the Pin and CG.

I keep looking at it and trying to find a way, to drill it, but it confuses me.
The pin is obviously in the middle, the CG is about an inch south and to the left (inbetween the F and I in Finish) and the Mass Bias is directly below the Pin about 10-12 inches.

I am a Left Handed tweener, with decent revs and medium to slow ball speed, and I play on a THS...I am not sure how to drill this.  I am thinking putting a length drill on it, but from the reviews, it might go too long.

Anyone have any experience with the ball and know what would be best...does the ball get good length on it's own....does it turn hard..things like that.

Spider,
Get on Morich website and you can email them and give them your bowler specs and what kind of lane conditions you bowl on and what type of reaction you're looking for. They will return your email with a drilling layout in a few days! I hope this helps, Bruce

10-12 inches?  Care to provide a picture of that?

does the ball get good length on it's own  (YES, this ball goes very long)

does it turn hard  (YES, once the weight block takes over there is no stopping this monster)

Either that ball was a major boo-boo, or your perception of distance is way off. The mb should be 6-3/4" from the pin. Not 10-12".

Complete this form on Morich's site and submit. They will respond back to you and suggest the best layout for you with that ball.

That's a pretty good description. The ball goes surprisingly long for a solid, and once the core literally kicks in, the ball breaks fast and hard. I have mine pin above ring finger, about 4.5" from PAP, and the MB stacked. Very much length and a small and violent breakpoint. But it does not cover many boards, because it breaks so late - it works best on tight lines to the pocket, and the low RG calls for some head oil. Additionally, the late break point calls for an exact delivery. If I play it too far outside, the ball will not recover into the pocket (as my S&A with similar setup would do) and leave washouts or ugly 2-4-8-10s. Touchy. I guess it might need a flare increasing hole, but I am not sure if this might create other problems due to the steeper entry angle.

Dizzy my ball reacts the same way.  My pin is above and to the right of my ring finger and the CG is stacked.  I was very disappointed at first because I was expecting a much stronger reaction.  On the third game of league when the lanes are semi-fried this ball is golden.

Yes, similar to my experience. I expected more visible hook and back end, especially for a polished ball. And the ball delivers this - there is no mistake. But it reacts so late and violent, that mistakes you make at the release/arrows simply is not compensated by early grip. I found the ball to shine on fresh medium shots. If the head oil goes away, it will hook early for me, and then the trouble begins to find the narrow path between moving too dep with the feet (missing the 1-3 pocket occasionally to the right) or keeping it too tight (moving Brooklyn).
Moving deeper is an option, though, but I have to keep the ball on a real tight line because it lacks the recovery potential I know from my S&A. Nevertheless, I can make the AFi move a lot, simply by taking some speed out of my delivery, but when the lane is a bit spotty in the back end, this can be hazardous (I am simply lacking the consitency).

Interesting piece, anyway, and I am still baffled how a low RG solid ball can have so much length and such an... awesome finish. It just needs trained hands, it is IMHO not the easiest ball to handle.
