Got an email from the tech staff...
« on: January 03, 2007, 06:11:16 AM »
I sent a request on their drilling form, based on the stats I knew (rev dominant, 15mph, pap is 4 1/2) and was told pin to pap 5 1/2; mb to pap 5 1/4; with pin 3" above midline.  Can someone elaborate on this drilling?

okay no responses yet.  I'm assuming w/the pin being 5 1/2 from the pap, it will promote skid, along w/the pin being 3" above the midline.  Also the mb being 5 1/4 from the pap will promote length.  But what type of reaction will i get?  It will probably be a pretty sharp angle?

lol, oh yeah,  it's an awesome revs, 14.5 lbs. 2.5 tw; 4-5.5" pin.

Looks like a modified Forward Roll drill.  Check the drill sheet but Med. track flare, forward roll, early revs.  It promotes length but in my A. Hook it's a smooth arch for me, with my 16 mph and 230 rev rate.

Hmm, not sure about it being a forward roll, based on the general layouts on their sites.  It seems like a save energy till the backend kinda layout, i'm just wondering how hard the movement will be in the backend.

Did Fred (Morich tech guy) say where to place the MB?  On or near VAL or close to thumb?  They use 5 standard MB positions to help determine shape?  General rule of thumb is the closer to the VAL the smoother off the corner the ball will be.  Close to the thumb is flip shape and like a 45 degree (about halfway between thumb and MB) is hard and continuous.  Have you laid the ball out yet?  It seems as though the MB should be closer to the thumb or to the strong position based on some quick sketches, which should give you some decent continous backend.  I have one drilled at 3 3/8 by 5, and it's pretty sharp with continuation....

Hope this helps,

Bill

Yeah, it seems like a drilling to go long and break hard, i just don't want it to be too over/under.  but w/the coverstock, it'll smooth it out a little, hopefully.  sorry the email didn't give info on the val distance.

I imagine the distance from the val would be about the same 5 1/4".  Or the mb will be at or around the thumbhole.
