If the ball is or was in box condition (400 grit dull) it was very aggressive. You can add some polish in small stages for more length and more backend OR you can sand/Scotch-Brite/Abralon it to finer grit, like 1000, 1200, 1500 or 2000 grit for more length with some sense of control. Finer grits tend to need a little more ongoing maintenance but are more gadual and easier to control than polish, in general. Both need a cooperative pro shop or your own spinner & equipment. Many proshops when you ask for a "little polish" can be slightly brutal and put a high gloss on the ball. So, be friendly and kind if you have to ask the shop for a favor of this nature. If you're paying, they should do what you want. (Still a friendly word oges a long way.)
