I just won a MoRich ball!!!
« on: August 25, 2006, 07:37:50 AM »
Courtesy of www.phantomradioshow.com - I just won a top of the line MoRich bowling ball. I have not kept up with ANY ball manufacturer's releases in the past year, so I'm not at all familiar with what they have. I'm not sure I'll have a choice, but if I do, I'd like the input of the board.

I am dropping to 14 pound equip. this year, so I need all new stuff. I'll have a couple of dry-medium balls to start. There is not much use for a real heavy oiler around here, so any suggestions for true medium conditions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I have had tremendous success with a Shock n Awe.  For me, on "medium" oil, it is money.  It reads the mids very well for a pearl resin, and makes a strong yet controllable move off the breakpoint.  The only other ball I even throw on mediums is a Black Widow.  Those 2 cover it for me.  I know a lot of people didn't like their SnA, but I have been extremely happy with it.

Mumzie, Congrats on winning the ball.

Take a look at  the Awesome Flip, works great on medium and the lighter side of medium.

From their previous series...and a more versatile core...

The Sahara (has the clean Brunswick Punisher coverstock on it) and also can put the mass bias on the track side to reduce midlane greatly.

This cannot be done with the new Vanguard core balls which started with the WMB and the Shock and Awe.

Sahara is more for lighter to medium oil and the Shock and Awe is a step up to medium.

Both great balls in my opinion(shock and awe is Brunswick Absolute Inferno cover) which is Activator +.

Sahara for lighter...Shock and Awe for pure mediums up and down a little bit!

Great pieces!

Awesome Flip or Awesome Hook would be my choice.

So what coverstock is used on the other balls?
I was liking the sound of the S&A, but Activator + has not been a terrible favorite of mine. I had an Absolute Inferno, and despite trying 3 different drillings, the ball just didn't seem to roll up for me.

I also had an Absolute Inferno, and I hated it.  I was at first hesitant when my pro shop guy recommended a Shock and Awe for me because of the same covers.  The SnA just plain rolls much better for me.  I have not tried the Awesome Flip or Hook so I cannot comment on those.

Awesome Hook is for heavier oil...it has similar cover to the powerful non particle....Total Annhialtion...C4 reactive(i believe Mo's version of solid activator).  When I see these balls I think Strike Zone...a very strong Strike Zone!

Awesome hook is not for lighter oil!

You shold see a much harder backend reaction from the AF than from the AI, just due to the Vanguard upper flip cap core.  I too would reccomend the AF, its a great ball for mediums, has many drilling options, and cn be used for multiple lines.

It may be a bit more drill sensitive than the Sahara, due to the stronger mass bias, but overall I think it should work better.  It is true that the Sahara can work on mediums with a fairly strong drill, but you'll probably have to change the oob surface to something duller, and still you may be on the lighter side of oil handling capabilities.

Putting the pin on the negative side of the ball is not a huge concern.  I have a Ravage (almost the same core as the Sahara) drilled with the mb beneath the thumb at 6" from my pap that really concerves energy.  This layout CAN be drilled on a vanguard ball as the pin is on the midline not the negative side of the ball.

LL, who said it was for lighter oil? She stated she wanted something to fill a true medium oil shot. That is why I suggested it or the AF. The AH with a little polish is a sweet medium oil ball. The AF would work right out of the box though.

The cover is stronger than activator solid, the core is stronger than either the Zone asym or the Ultra low rg.  It does however have the capability of being drilled to be weaker than either.  If drilled with a 2" layout and the surface is modified to be at least 4000, probably polished it can work for the heavier side of medium.  It will never be as clean through the fronts as the AF however, and in general the Af is probably the better choice.

My AH is too much ball for 36 ft Sport... I am having to wait 10 weeks until the 44 ft shot gets laid.
