Labyrinth
« on: January 11, 2004, 01:56:07 AM »
I drilled my labyrinth up and boy is it strong and early. I took the suggestions from the Morich site by plugging in all the answers to their questions. The pin is up 1 1/2" above the midline and drilled with the pin below the ring 4" from PAP. MB is 1 inch from thumb with a weight hole in the thumb positive quadrant. Surface at 600 with Elixir.

This ball is early and strong. I do not have a lot of axis tilt but can play quite a bit of rotation. This ball never rolls out and drives the pocket well. It carries better than a lot of other equipment I have thrown.

I will experiment with the cover a little more to see if I could get a little more length out of it. It could be a go to ball.

I may consider the onslaught after seeing this ball.

By the way this is the first Morich ball I have thrown.

Update

Well I polished this ball and man does this ball roll nice.  I was able to get a little more length and this ball carries well.  Very easy to read and I can let this ball work since it continues to drive.  No need to hit this ball at all.  Not that I should in the first place.  This ball reacts well with different hand positions and I think this ball will have a place in my bag.  At least for a while.

Thanks for the updated Doc! It's greatly appreciated.

When you've moved up, moved back, adjusted left and right, cupped, flattened out, have thrown everyting in your arsenal, and the pins still don't cooperate, just say, "Aw to HELL with it!", and throw the ball!

Doc, the fisrt Morich I had was the Colossus, and drilled it to the Sharp Break from their instructions. I played with the cover (which is extremely adapatable I found) and got just what I was looking for.
Then an injury forced me to change my weights, and a new arsenal.
I ordered another Colossus because I was so happy with it. But this time I tried the "control drilling". It again does just what it was supposed to do, and I have kept the box finish with this.
I am now tempted to order a Mayhem for the "soup", although I probably will hardly use it until the summer Classic Shootouts. But from reports of someone on tour that threw the Unleased, Mutant, etc, and then threw the Mayhem, it is THE oil ball.

Bob - I tend to play between the 3rd and 4th arrow most of the time.  Because of my low tilt most balls for me stand up pretty quick and get into a roll and then tend to burn too soon if I swing too far out.  Most of the time my best bet is to play a tight line which is tough since I don't practice much anymore.  I can change my tilt and rotation but like you say it's not my "A" game.

I am going to experiment some more.

Hey Doc,

You should try the Colossus Pearl then.  It's pearlized and you get great distance and still the control to the pocket. I first tried the Colossus, loved it from the beginning. I got 5 to 6" of flare on this ball. Then I tried the Colossus Pearl for drier conditons. I don't get much flare on this ball but it's drilled for control. This ball gives me good distance and still hits like a truck. I just brought a used Hercules from someone on ebay. I actually just tried it over the weekend. This ball is even better then the Colossus. My equipment use to be the Track Freak and Mutant, both great hitting balls but now I have switched. Now it Hercules for fresh to med, Colossus for med to light and Colossus Pearl for light to dry. Try it you can't go wrong.

bowldoc - I know what you mean.  I like the way this ball reacts on the lanes.  It just keeps it's axis rotation and hooks.  Then it gets into a roll at the end.

The Freak I was throwing is all roll and is smooth and the line I have to play with it isn't very good at all.
