I heard it the other way around.  
My CG is about 1 to 1 1/2 inches to the left of the line between the pin and the MB markings.  In the way my ball was drilled, it did not need a balance hole but one could be added at a later time.  In the same drilling if the CG was to the right of the line between the pin and MB markings, I would have needed a balance hole.  I have been told that having the CG to the left for RH bowlers is preferably.  But I'm sure some will say it doesn't matter.

I second Nica. The CG on my LevRG is appx. 1 1/2 to the left of the line between the pin and the MB marking as well and also have no weight hole. cmoore recommended the CG to the left and it's worked out great.

This doesn't matter.  If your a right hander and the cg falls to the left of the line through the pin and mb, for most layouts, a weight hole is less necessary, as the static weights are more likely to be in line with the standard.  If the cg is on the right, the cg will probably be further from the center of the grip, and thus a discrepance in the static weights is more likely and a weight hole may be necessary.  

Weight holes matter, and change reaction.  The cg does not, other than making one put a weight hole in the ball, and thus changing the reaction.

The good thing about having the CG left of that line between the pin and MB is that more than likely a balance hole will not be needed as already mentioned.  But the good think about a ball that doesn't require a balance hole is that you can add one later in different sizes and locations to help the ball to flare more or put the balance hole on the PAP to tame the ball down.  If you have to put a balance hole in the ball upon the initial drilling, you would probably have to plug the balance hole and change the location but will not have as many options as with the ball with the CG left of the line.

And in my opinion, that means it matters.
