Mini Review: Awesome FINISH
« on: April 02, 2007, 06:03:29 AM »
Ball: Asymmetrical Flip.....pin 4 inches from PAP 1 inch inside of VAL. MB ended up on the outter right of my thumb 5inches from PAP. I left the box finish on it.

Lane Conditions: I have only used this ball on my house pattern so far.

HOOK:
Heavy Oil: Mo has much better selections for heavy oil than the FINISH. Use this ball for what it is intended.

Medium: AH YES!!!! The perfect slot for the FINISH. It will get plenty of length but the way it reads the end of the pattern is unbelieveable! It moves so hard at the break that I think it frightens the dry boards.

Light: This is not out of the question with this ball. It is not a Sahara by any means, but with the MB strength and placing it in the proper spot the FINISH could sit here very well.

TOTAL HOOK:
The FINISH is a good 5-6+ boards less than the REVS. They make a great 1-2 combo for use on almost any condition.

CONTROL:
I normally do not place balls that are strong in the backend in this category, but the FINISH is pretty controllable due to how well it handles the midlanes. It will not start up until it reaches friction.

EXPECTED REACTION:
I got exactly what I wanted out of this ball. I wanted length with a very strong move down lane. I can get my feet nearly as deep as I want and as long as I get the ball into the friction soon enough it recovers.

STRENGTHS: Length....Backend motion....and the normal exlposion of a MoRich ball at the pins.

WEAKNESSES: Long flat patterns. I do not think this would be as much of an issue with a tweak to the coverstock, but that is what the REVS is for.

COMMENTS:
I stated earlier how I can get as deep as I want and as long as I get the ball to friction soon it enough it will recover. FOR ME it is not the recovery that matters......it is the recovery and still being able to get the corners out, and the FINISH does just that. If you have REVS and want something underneath it with a very similiar overall ball motion then grab a FINISH!!!!!!!

Hey Carl,

How high above midline was the pin?  Did you end up above or below the fingers?

Thanks,

Bill

Bill, pin ended up above the fingers and roughly 3 1/2 above my midline.

Is this the definition of "Asymmetrical Flip" drilling?
"Asymmetrical Flip.....pin 4 inches from PAP 1 inch inside of VAL. MB ended up on the outter right of my thumb." Is the drilling supposed to increase length and angularity of reaction? How far is the MB from your PAP? How much of the ball reaction you are describing to us is due to the drilling? Thanks for your time.

The flip drill is imo the best way to have overall ball motion with good to great hit left by the pin deck. On medium - heavy on down it rules the roost for overall hooking motion, the ball has to have over .010 mass bias for the mb really to make a difference.

For most higher trackers being anywhere near or right below the thumb is close enough for drilling purposes. I know the zone for the mb to work correctly for me on higher mb balls for the flip drilling and do not worry about exacts like the difference between say 4 or 4 1/2 mb to pap. There are maybe 5 guys and gals on this site good enough to know the difference of a 1/2 mb shift, i doubt they could even pick it out if the mb was painted over.

Paul,

If you are speed dominant, the asym. flip drilling can help you, but you'd need a ball to help also.  Case in point, the WMB is the smoothest ball Mo produced with the Vanguard core. Typically it will not become a 'boomer' with just the flip drilling.  The drillings typically enhace ball motion characteristics.  Place that same drilling on a Finish, Revs, Flip or Seek and you'd see more of a backend reaction with the drilling.  The flip drilling also requires your tilt and speed to read the mids, and most speed dominant players need help in reading mids from the ball, which is why you say you like 45 degree stuff.

Typically all rev styles can use the flip drilling - just put in on the right ball...

Hope this helps,

Bill

Good point...I forgot to put the MB distance from PAP....I am editing it now.

Asymmetrical Flip layouts generally get the ball reving more towards the end of the pattern.....increasing movement from the break through the pin deck. Naturally moving the mb placment will have an affect on reaction. I feel that alot of the reaction I am describing is determined by the layout...this holds very true with most MoRich equipment.

Carl,
I am more of speed dominant player.
I had this drill on my WMB and hated it.
Is this drill dependent on the players ball speed and rev rate
I tend to use a 45 degree layout with various pin placements and tweek the cover.

Any thoughts?

I bought a revs and I was debating wether or not I wanted the hook or the finish. I think now I will go with the finish. So should I get them both drilled the same?

I wouldn't be afraid to drill them the same....remember though, the MB is a touch stronger on the FINISH than the Revs...so you may need to move it slightly....but not too much.

As a pro shop operator I have to becareful with the layout that I pick for a bowler. Asymmetrical Flip can be very sensative, so at times it requires much more attention than most pro shop operators normally give.

EVERY layout should be dependent on ball speed revrate and every aspect of one's game that is available for the pro shop operatorto use as a "tool" to set up a ball to do what the bowler wants.

carl, will have rick drill strong breakpoint on the revs to fit under the tsa (forward roll) and over the S&A (strong breakpoint).  will awesome finish with control drill (2 1/2 X 6 1/2, according to mo's website) be under the S&A?  would like to use it on the drier mediums.
