Mini Review - Shock and Awe
« on: March 10, 2005, 02:10:42 PM »
Mo was kind enough to send a ball so we could right a review. First, the ball looks much better then the picture we have on our site. It is a great looking ball. Obviously looks are one thing but performance is another.

I drilled the ball for one of my regular house bowlers (Jorge). He is a medium to hi rev player. His PAP is 5 1/8 up 3/4 with track diameter of 12.

Layout:
Pin 3 1/2 from PAP
MB 5 1/8 from PAP
Pin 2 3/4 above midline of grip
xtra hole 2 3/4 thru cg pitched 1 1/4 to the right (7/8 bit 3 inches deep)

Bowling on the house shot (41 feet with 26 Mils). Lanes were not fresh as there was a high school league in front of his league. Our center has a tendency for the backends to really tighten up after one shift of bowling. So balls that skid flip generally can't cut thru the oil in the back ends. I watched Jorge throw about 15 shots over his three games and not once did this ball squirt or back up when he got it in the oil and it didn't have a stupid jerk off the dry. When the ball made it's move there was no stopping it. Though he only shot 710 (with a 200 the first game, no practice) the ball was real impressive. Impressive enough that it got the attention of the other bowlers around him already. I asked Jorge to tell me why he likes the ball so much just after 3 games, but he said to me "I can't describe it but the ball just reads the lane consistantly. You just have to see it."

Just from watching this looks like it could be the best of all Mo's creations.

On Monday, Jorge bowls on fresh pattern and I hope to update this post then.

Hope this wasn't to long...it really is hard to describe and not make it sound like other balls, because it didn't react like others.

Thanks for the update Chris, I was considering the WMB, but did think my local house used enough oil, do you think this ball will fit in just under the WMB if drilled correctly? I emailed Bill @ Buddies and he thinks you will stock this ball in about 2 weeks, I think I'll hold off on another ball purchase until then. Keep the updates coming. Patrick Hunter. have they fixed the problem of making this core in 16lbs? i had to wait like 3 weeks to get my wmb. maybe with the different density cap on the bottom it is easier to produce.

This ball sounds like a very good addition to the line. Sounds a lot like some of hammers new particle pearl cut-throat balls, very skid flip yet will still cut through some oil. Makes me really want to get one even though I just bought a wmb!
