Mo Pinel banned from BBE...
« on: January 16, 2010, 02:25:46 PM »
This has been discussed in another thread here at BR.com.

I feel the need to share my take on it as well -

I have posted 3 times to BBE and recently paid more attention to the site since I had seen that Mo was posting there.

I believe he felt it was a "safe" forum where the moderators would keep the forum threads civil and a place he could reach out and educate independent bowlers, pro shop operators, and anyone willing to read what he was posting.

It would seem that Mo was banned simply for "violating" the terms of service at BBE.  Those terms apparently don't apply to everyone that is a member of that site.

I will likely spend a lot less time there now that Mo is no longer able to share technologically/scientifically accurate information there.

It would be a nice improvement for different companies that have tech people available to post different things on this site for drilling and other general info.

Let it be under the designated company forum like this and only people whos questions or comments are approved be listed. Because some people just post stupid stuff or are JAs just so they can be.

Maybe you haven't been here long enough but the technical people frommost of the manufacturers used to visit here regularly. Many were verbally attacked by the "ignorant internet backstabbers" who hide behind their PCs. Most finally got feed-up when they were trying to be helpful and give details about their products. They will never return. We're lucky to have the few who do still come by somewhat regularly, like Eric Thomas of 900Global/AMF, Tony Martin of Lanemaster, Jason Wonders of Visionary, and the Hammer guy (once in a while). Brunswick drops by once in a while, but even now he is still being attacked. The Ebonite guy will never come here again. Mo's son used to come by - no more.

That was the reason for setting it up the way I described.. that way the tech person would have a forum all to themselves that wouldn't be cluttered with garbage. If they see a question or discussion on the open forum then they could pull that into their private forum and write about it.. Maybe even allow access to the private forum to the original poster so there could be some healthy discussion or debate without all the extraneous bs

I think it would be a difficult task to convince those people this would NOW be a safe haven for them. Many of them came back again and again and put up with serious abuse. Once burnt, twice shy, except each suffered 4 or 5 different sets of abuse. I think Bowling Chat forum has it right with its Tech Forums and visiting chat room, like was done with Eric Thomas several months back.

+1

See my "pessimistic/realistic" post above...  I've been a registered member here for just over 6 years now.  This site has not change a significant amount since I signed up.

Jeff, you've been here almost 8 years and as much as things have changed, I'm thinking they're still pretty much the same.  By the way, thanks again for providing me information on the Quantum Helix what seems like eons ago.

J_mac,

No, I think things have changed. Several years ago,a bunch of kids got in here and madea mess of things. Just be being a bunch of snot-nosed brats, happy to "upset the apple cart". Then, as to make things worse, some adults followed them here a couple of years later and seemed to think the same way the children did: do whatever we want to make life miserable for everyone else. The place hasn't been the same since.

There are still some good people left and many people do have legitimate questions and many still try to answer them reasonably, but there are far too many low lifes happy to do nothing but wreck havoc. To be honest I am very surprised that people like Eric Tomas and Jason Wonders till come here.

Jeff, what I meant is that the BR.com hasn't changed much.  They've added a few forums and stuff like that, but for the most part it's remained the same.

That's not to say that I don't agree with what you said about some of the BR.com "ab"users though.

Yes, BR itself has not changed. Heck, even I am looking forward to even a modicum of policing.

This site has changed some over the past several years.  People are very quick
to attack others.  There are people, like myself, who are called trolls because
we read a lot of posts and do not comment.  I only comment if I am sure about
something or am asking for advice from someone who would know.  I have a Masters Degree in Physical Education and 30 years of teaching and coaching
experience.  I do have valuable things to offer in my field of expertise.
Otherwise I shut up.  There needs to be much more civility and acceptance of
other peoples' opinions.  Kids and dilettantes have a much exaggerated opinion
of their knowledge.
