cleaning my ravage
« on: January 11, 2005, 03:41:27 PM »
I can't seem to get the tackiness back on my ravage.I have tried Storms mega bite, and it worked for a while.I have used simple green 50/50 water.I have used 100% simple green.I have tried a scotchbrite pad then I cleaned it still not really tacky.I wipe my ball after every shot with a microfiber towel and clean my ball the second I get home.I love the ball,it's my first morich ball.I have about 75 games on it and I don't think I need to resurface it as of yet.One of my friends told me clean and dull, but, they never gave me the brand.Yes the ball still hooks fairly well I just like that tacky feeling.Any suggestions? One of my bowling buddies joked around and said spray hairspray on the ball and let dry.Obviously he will not be on my go to list for this. Thanks!!!!  Oh anyone have a ravage 2 for sale or any other Morich oversea ball for sale?

SM,

The Ravage has a Brunswick based coverstock that responds well to the warm soapy water method as well as Ebonites Hook Again for decontaminating the pours.

Use Track Magic Clean n Dull regularly followed by occasional polishing with Brunswick Factory finish polish or the equivalent (I like ultimates original Black Magic for Ravages) to keep up the "like new" tackiness.

FYI, hair spray will clog the pours and make it a wonderful spare ball.  I have seen this done, to the amusement of all but the ball owner .

I have heard different things on the warm soapy water thing.A friend of mine says to soak the whole ball in it.I really don't think that's my best option.Do you mean make up a solution of it ,then dip like a towel in it and use it like that?Sorry for being dumb....long day lol!!!

Use TRACK Clean-N-Dull it will deep clean the coverstock and give it that oh so sweet tacky feeling again!!!

Actually my method for through cleaning is:

Step 1: Clean with Track Clean-N-Dull.

Step 2: Spray 50/50 mixture of simple green and water let set for a minute and wipe clean.

Step 3: Spray clean water on entire ball and wipe dry.

I guarantee your ball will be clean and tacky again!!

Set the ball on an old buttertub or the like in a sink or wash tub and fill it till you are covering a good 2/3rds of the ball with not scalding water and a good squirt of dawn dish detergent or similar.

I usually use a slightly abrasive 3m pad (800 grit grey scotch brite works well) to help loosen up debris and scour the pours.  I pretty much treat the ball like a greasy pot for a good 5 minutes or so, then rinse with warm clear water and let it dry.  Feel free to tape over the gripping holes to keep the water out if you prefer.

The scotch brite will remove the factory polish job, so plan on repolishing after you clean it in this manner.

When you get to resurfacing due to track wear, do the ebonite hook again at the same time.

I know of people with 500 plus games on Ravages that still roll and look like new that do clean n dull every set, repolish about every four sets and resurface/hook again about every hundred games or so.  Just like grandpa says "Take care of it and it'll take care of you...."
