Awesome Hook vs Hammer Anger

I am deciding which one to buy for Heavy Oil. If anyone owns
both or has compared it to with a friend who has one or the other, please
give me your experience and opinion.

I would go with the Awesome Hook just cause I am a MoRich Junkie The Hook should be a little more versatile to cover changes than the Anger IMO and a Stronger core.

p.s. I have only throwen the hook never the Anger so take it with a grain of salt I am just giving my opinion.

There is only one choice for heavy oil and it is MoRich.  You could even get an Awesome Revs and sand it down and it will hook even more than the Awesome Hook.

I would agree with the above.  Hook would be better IMO, and a Revs with some surface wouldn't be bad either.  I would think the Anger being in the mid-price point wouldn't have as much hook potential than the Hook.

I have my Anger drilled Stack Leverage and this ball handles more oil than you would even imagine. This ball makes the Shark, Scorpion and the Viper non-issues. The Cover is strong and the core makes a nice more at the break point as well. For a mid priced ball you cant go wrong with the Anger. Watch the video on buddies pro shops website, the ball flat out hooks and never stops!

I am totally unbiased here so, keep that in mind. the Anger I am sure is a good oil ball but, nobody makes a better heavy oiler than Morich. They are true oilers. Its a shame there inst that much oil to use them most of the time for most players. The Pattern better be heavy and long at the sametime. Not many balls can handle both together. For oil most folks probally see, the Hammer should get the job done though. Looking at your profile, I would go for the Morich if I were you.

BTW, I had  a hook. It was too early for me but, I am rev dominant. It LOVES oil!

How good do you want to get the job done is the question? Looking at your profile, I would go for the Morich if I were you.

Exactly Slop, my Hook, Hooks before it gets to the arrows, it is unstopable when it starts! No amount of oil stands in its way, it was almost to much for the U.S. National pattern

I have the ANGER and had the AWESOME HOOK. These two balls are very similar in reaction. Both are strong through out the lane.

The AWESOME HOOK is very strong in box condition which is 400 grit. This ball works well on heavier/long patterns. I brought the cover up on mine to 1000 grit abralon which gave it a sweet reaction.

The ANGER comes with a 2000 grit surface and work well on oil. I have not used this ball on a long pattern this summer. I think 40' was the longest so far but had a good amount of oil. It was very strong on this pattern. There's no doubt in my mind that the ANGER will kick butt on heavy/long patterns.

If there's ever two balls from different companies that are similar in reaction it's these two.

Which to buy? Both balls are good for heavier/longer patterns. The AWESOME HOOK is asymmetrical while the ANGER is symmetrical. The AWESOME HOOK cost a lot more than the ANGER. Both balls hit and carry great. You can't go wrong with either one!

I personally like the ANGER a bit more because it's symmetrical and cheaper. Plus it being 2000 grit OOB, gives one plenty of room to dull the ball down for even more hook.


And for those that think the AH will run circles around the ANGER need to think again! If both balls were at the same cover grit they would be very close in reaction. The AH has a stronger core (asymmetrical) while the ANGER has a stronger cover.

You can't go wrong with either one.  Both balls will work for the conditions you described.  Like I said before, I would go with the ANGER because it's cheaper and symmetrical which is my personal preference.  However, if i'm looking into an asymmetrical ball then Mo Rich would be where I look first.

Chi, I am not calling BS becasue, I have not thrown both. I have only thrown the Hook. I just have a hard time agreeing with them both being about the same. BTM sure didnt think so if you compare both reviews if I correctly remember what I read about both.

Slop, BTM has been off base on a few of their reviews of bowling balls.  They are off base on the ANGERS total hook numbers.  

If you take the Awesome Hook with it's 400 grit box finish, it's going to be stronger than the Anger at 2000 grit.  However, if you bring the Awesome Hook up to 2000 grit it's not stronger than the ANGER.  I don't think BTM brought the ANGER'S cover down to even 500 grit.

The ball motion on my Awesome Hook was very similar to my Anger.  Very strong mid-lane which continues all the way to the pins.

The Anger is a very strong ball and BTM didn't give it's hook number justice.  I feel they were way off on their numbers with this ball.

Slop, also keep in mind that the Awesome Hook works well on heavier oil because of it's 400 grit surface.  I mean that's low!  There's a few balls on the market that are just as strong if not stronger than the HOOK at that low of a grit surface.  

The AH has a stronger core than the ANGER.  In fact, the HOOK has one of the strongest cores made.  I don't think any other ball maker has stronger cores than Mo Rich.  I just think the ANGER'S cover is stronger not it's core.

The overall ball motion of these balls are very close.  In fact, the very first time I thru the ANGER it reminded me of the AH.  Very strong mid-lane and continues to the pins.  I love this reaction!

If you put both balls at the same cover grit and use similar layouts there going to be very close in reaction.  Not just total hook but overall ball motion.

I prefer the ANGER because I really like symmetrical cores.  Plus it's cheaper in price.  If I was looking to buy an asymmetrical ball, Mo Rich would be my first choice.  

I have seen the awesome finish, flip, revs in action and like each one.  I have owned the AH and that was a very good ball as well.

If you like symmetrical balls go with the ANGER for heavy oil.  If you like asymmetrical balls go with the AH for heavy oil.  You can't go wrong with either!

I would go with the Anger as well. Price range is awesome, and I know first hand this is a heavy oil ball. Just dull it up a bit depending on how much oil you're using it on.. Hope that helps!
