Question about the Shock & Awe
« on: April 20, 2005, 12:04:53 PM »
Well, I'm getting one drilled tomorrow, 14 lbs.  I throw about 15-16 mph, med to high revs.  Most of my balls have pin above and to the right of ring finger, about 1'oclock.  I want to utilize the full hook potential of this ball, I want to go long and strong backend.  I need suggestions for drilling.

It's been stated many times.  Either go to MoRich's site to see their standard drillings, or find a pro shop very famillair with Mo's cores or other strong asymmetric's.  You can't just throw a standard drilling on these balls and get the best results.  Read some of the other recent posts in this forum for more information.

Well I got the ball drilled pin about 2 inches to right of ring finger, with the mb about 2 inches left of the thumbhole.  the top weight was 3.7 oz.  I was told it would arc after going extremely long.  I usually cover a lot of boards, it was suggested to dull the bull b/c the reaction isn't what i expected.  but the way it goes long, but still hits backend nice is an unexpected nice thing.  This ball hits hard.  Maybe I won't mess w/it yet, from the drilling it looks like I can be versatile and consistent, rather than trying to gain area and cover more boards.

Well, should I just get it redrilled, w/mb to the right so it's stronger and I can play more area (which is what i wanted) and not worry about dulling it?  I wanna make sure plugging and redrilling won't kill the ball.

Use the ball as it is, consider it something different.  I asked the same questions about 2 weeks ago got the same response, and I finally decided that if all these drillings are based on your pap, then you can never change your hand position.  Because doing that will change your pap.  Plus then looking at the drilling sheets, I found no bowler that resembled my style of play so I decided to drill these balls like all my others. And they work just fine.

I still need an answer to my question, get it redone, or consider it a different weapon in my arsenal.

Thats the best drilling for length and backend, i have my V2 drilled like that and its great

You cannot and DO NOT drill asymmetric balls ANYTHING like symmetric cored balls. I guess I and others will say this until we're blue in the face and people will still close their eyes and make believe whatever they want to be true is true.

I agree! I told myself a few months ago that I was going to stop looking for a ball reaction and just bowl.  Ever since I've been bowling better than ever.

I must disagree with the statement about cores being meaningless. Coverstocks play a big part in ball performance, but I believe that the modern dynamic cores of today's bowling balls also play a large part. But then again, MORICH only has a degree in Physics. How can he know as much as some house hack?

Re-read my third sentence.  No one said the ball will be a flop.  You just won't get the best results with standard drillings.  When you spend $150+ on a ball, why wouldn't you want it to be all it can be?  When you are provided with directions, why ignore them?  If you're happy with the reaction, don't spend money on a plug and redrill.  If you want something different, follow my advice from above.

I also just saw in another thread that you posted about pros using a pin up and and pin down drilling on the same ball.  Why do that, they can just have one dull and the other one polished.

What is more important, the core or the coverstock?  The fact is you need match the right cover to the right core to make a great ball, then match that ball to the right bowler and the right layout to get great scores.

Cover prep and cores are important, but as T-God has said(I belive it was him) Mo and his followers seem to try and make drilling and cores rocket science, when it isnt.

No, it's not rocket science....but you can't compare a dynamic asymetrical core ball to a symetrical core ball and just "punch" holes in it...PERIOD !!!  If you can't accept that, or deny that....then that's your problem...they're different and that's all we're telling him !

chalest said it very well!

Maybe Tracks layouts/drill patterns would help Explain the reactions of this type of core Gp2 for instance, look at the track website and tell me what ya think? To me it just makes it a little more understandable!!
