Notice this with TA
« on: November 21, 2004, 02:31:32 PM »
For those who have used to TA on the "THS", I have a question. Have you noticed carrydown that seemingly comes from nowhere? Im not sure why. Im not sure how. But on nights when I throw solely the TA I end up having to bump right as the night goes on. Ive seen the same with Jim Tomek, former pro who bowls in my area. Ive noticed a few times just having to move right for what seems like almost no reason. Ive looked for people using urethane (which drives me nuts) but there is nothing. I looked for balls that could possibly cause this and find nothing.

My question is, does this happen to anyone else on a THS? Also if you have had it happen, is it due to the reactive surface and their "additive" in it?

There are so many reasons for this you'd almost need a textbook to explain them all (the type of oil, the type of balls being used, the revs with which the bowlers throw them, too many people playing the same line, heavy, but shorter oil, too much open play before league, etc). As with many conditions in bowling and life, why ask why unless it helps you towards a solution. The most important thing is to recognize it and deal with it as you have. Good for you!

The TA is supposed to be one of those newer coverstocks like on the Rule and the Bully balls and the Brunswick Activators which are almost particle-like in their reactions and oil handling ability. So you must be having a lot of carrydown for this ball not to handle it (unless you have it polished, of course).

Its pretty subtle when it happens. It just catches me offguard. If it happened just once or twice I could say "Oh it was something else that night". It is seemingly every time I throw the ball. And the other reason I bring it up, is that it is only with that ball that I notice the carrydown. I use my Mayhem, Ravage, WMB, or Onslaught and I dont see anything like it. The TA is definitely enough to hook through it, Ill give you that. I was just curious if anyone else had seen anything like it.

I'm pretty sure the TA's cover is significantly stronger than either the Ravage's or the Onslaught's. So unless your TA's drilling is weaker or you have a serious polish on it, the only other possibility I see right now is that your release may not have been 100% or you might have tugged it just enough without realizing it. We all do that on THS without realizing we're getting away with murder on some of our releases.

If I were you, I'd consult either directly with MoRich (they're very good in their replies) or with one of the MoRich experts here, like kotm.
