AMF vs Mo vs the world :)
« on: March 17, 2009, 02:10:46 PM »
Ok. I admit it: I'm tired of Storm/Roto and tired of Big B. I'm looking for a new home, starting with an oil ball. AMF's Mega sure looks good and will prolly be the next choice, but I'm still intrigued with Mo. I've always heard that Mo's stuff is finicky to drill. Anyone tried both? Any low rev lefty strokers out there with stories and/or comparisons to share?

Guess because I fit into this category, I've had very good luck with the levRG when it matches up to what I see out there. I've found I need enough oil up front to get to use this ball well, and when I start struggling to carry the ball needs to go back into the bag. It's the only Morich ball I've ever thrown but I would say over the past 15 months since throwing the ball I've won about $1,500 in tournaments with it alone.

You need to make sure you get someone experienced with drilling Morich equipment to match what you are looking for to your style. Otherwise it could be drilling a very expensive spare ball.

No way in the world a Morich ball could be a turd (or a any asymmetric ball for that matter) if it's drilled PROPERLY...and for YOUR game!  No way...

My new 4 ball is all AMF.  I'm throwing a Heist @ 1000, a Code OOB, a Heist Pearl (new), and an Orbit Extreme.  Depending on what your bowling on and your hand, your question will be answered.  If it is dry, dry, and more dry, and you have some hand: I don't think Morich works (IMO).  The Morich stuff is very strong.  The Sahara "for drier lanes" was anything but.  The cores are just big time motors.  If you see oil, Morich would be fine, I'm just not sure about a dry condition.

Make sure your ball driller knows what they are doing Mo's stuff is very sensitive to drillings, past that you can't go wrong, nothing hits harder than Mo's stuff just destroys the pins. If you want an oiler forget a Virtual Gravity pick up a Ntense LevRG. I have bought almost every since the Hercules and I have not had one fail me!

Also Jbruno has great point Mo's stuff is brutally strong all around, Control drill patterns are a good bet if you don't see alot of juice.

Awesome Hook was a dud for me, but boy do I love my Awesome Revs. I have thrown a lot of balls for heavy oil and this was the first one to replace my Slate Blue Quantum (going waaaaay back in bowling technology years), both in my heart and my bag.

My CG is skewed left so I pretty much drilled it standard label leverage with MB 45 degrees from the thumb and took the surface to 500 abralon. This ball is a BEAST, I was using it in a sport league that put down a 50' gutter to gutter pattern and was getting some reaction out of it, which is better than what most other non-crankers (and even some of the crankers) were getting!

The Hook is drilled the same way and I get nothing. I've always loved pearl particles though.

Ironic that this topic is up because I throw a lot of MoRich equipment and recently started throwing 900 global stuff (amf).

I agree that MoRich equipment is very drill specific but that's really a good thing.  Any driller that doesn't look at your layouts, PAP, and track before drilling a ball shouldn't be selling you ANY equipment, let alone MoRich.  So it's really no different than any other equipment.  Dual Angle layouts work perfectly for them (obviously) and to everyone else's point the control drillings are great.

As for finding a new home, I have always been an avid MoRich fan.  You really can't go wrong with them.  The NTense LevRG is in my opinion the best oiler ever made.  Also I've shot 4 straight 700 sets after polishing my LevRG for a THS which shows the versatility of their equipment.

With that said, I've also quickly taken to the 900 Global and AMF style equipment.  I picked up a Break Pearl and a Break Point recently.  With the break pearl I've shot 5 straight 700 sets in my other league.  The Break Pearl rolls very similar to the polished LevRG, it's not one of those snappy balls that most pearls end up being.  It's very smooth, controlled, and strong all at the same time.

You really can't go wrong either way.  In the end, look at how much oil you'll be bowling on and what kind of reaction you're looking for.  If you want strong continuous roll with great carry then MoRich can't be beat.  If you want smooth consistent roll with easy readability on the lanes for a similar shot each time, then the Global 900 (or AMF) equipment I think is best.
