ONSLAUGHT
« on: August 30, 2006, 01:21:38 PM »
was given this ball and i am struggling with it.  i am RT handed and throw around 17mph, but can slow down to around 15mph.  i stand 25board and throw 15. if i miss to the right, it stays out there and does not come back, hits the 6-10. if i miss inside it snaps too hard to the left and takes out the 4-7. any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. went back to my STRIKE ZONE and have been tearing it up standing 10 and throwing 5.

how is your onslaught layed out. cause have one that is drilled pin under the middle finger(right handed)and the cg and mb line up to the pin to give a skid flip reaction. but if i throw it out to far it comes back really hard. but i have the same probalem when tug it it does flip up.

One question, why are you throwing 10 to 5 with a strike zone while trying to swing the onslaught from 25 to 5.  The strike zone is a much stronger ball than the Onslaught.  The only time that I have been able to throw a more agressive ball that much further outside is on a flat sport shot where the outsides are oily in comparison to the middle.

As far as tuning the Onslaught, I would suggest sanding it to 2000 or lower to fight the over under.  This will smooth out the reaction and make it easier to get to the pocket.  If you pitch the ball out it will have a strong enough reaction to get back, while if you tug it, it won't jump up on the head pin like a polished ball will.

the reason i am throwing the Zone the way that i am is because of the way the lanes are oiled.  i need to go down and in. the ONSLAUGHT, i am trying o find what i need to do. if i stand 10 and throw 5, is stays out there. not sure how it is drilled, but i will bring it home tonight and let you both know. thanks and i hope that once i tell you how it is drilled, you can give me some suggestions.

Strong asymmetric balls need to be drilled by someone experienced with their reactions and your game.  They will never perform their best with a generic 4x3 type drilling.  If your driller doesn't know how to lay out a strong asymmetric and if he didn't ask (or know) your rev rate, axis tilt + rotation, PAP..., the Onslaught will never be all it can be.

You must be bowling on a very difficult house shot, to have the out of bounds that you are talking about when other houses you can hit any mark on the lane and strike.  I still stand by my advice to knock the polish off the ball.  If this doesn't work then you may need to contemplate redrilling it.  Start with the cheap solution first and go from there.

the house shot is really difficult. dry three boards in on either side and from there it is solid oil to about 40ft. Manager has stated that she does not want anyone shooting over 200 in this house. The ball was redrilled for me, but i prefer DULL balls, where this one has a nice new shine on it.  so BALLSDEEP, i think i am going to take your advice and dull it up some and see what happens.  just too bad i did not have more time to work with it before league started. of course one thing that i noticed is that when i bowl with 180-200avg bowlers, i do bowl better. but my team on Thursday they avg 115-120, so i do nto average as much. but it is so frustrating to know how to bowl, but can not bowl with this ball.

Went into the Pro-Shop that drilled the ball for me and told them the trouble I was having and what all of you have told me. They said knocking the polish off would work, but if I ever run into dry lanes, I would be stuck. So the only time to really use this ball is if my Strike Zone is hooking too much. But I want to thank you all for the advice. Nice to know that there are still people out there that really love this sport and are willing to help...
