SHOCK & AWE CARRY
« on: April 01, 2005, 01:03:13 AM »
Although I've only rolled 9 games with the S&A in league I have noticed a distinctive differences in pin carry and leaves. With most other equipment I have a tendancy to leave my fair share of ten's. With the S&A I leave fewer 10's, but when I think I've thrown the perfect ball I end up looking at an 8 or 9 pin. The ball carries much better on light hits than anyother ball I've thrown, heavier hits it almost always trips out the 4. Example, Tuesday night I shoot 715, left 1-10, 3 solid 8's and two solid 9's. In game three Tuesday in 4 consecutive frames I left an 8, 7, 9, and a 10 all on what appeared to be devestating pocket hits. Last night game one in three consecutive frames again 8,9,8, pin leave. Games two and three last night again a series of 8,and 9 pin leaves on crushing hits. I have never left as many 8 and 9's as I've been leaving here of late. Granted I'd rather leave these two in lieu of the 10 pin, but what gives? It seems to be related to the S & A. Last night I moved deeper and began tossing it 36-15-10 at the breakpoint, but then began to leave stone 7 pins. Now, do not misunderstand what I'm saying since drilling this ball last Thursday night I've shot 715, 772 and 696 last night. I'm not complaining about the ball I just do not understand the pins being left, all back row singles. Is it the ball hooking too hard at the pin deck, or is "too much ball for the house", LOL. I made small adjustments with my feet target but it did not seem to make a difference. I'm looking for advice here not sarcasim. Help.

I noticed the same thing. I drilled mine on Tuseday and threw 3 games with it, didn't leave a sindle 10 pin but I did leave several 8 & 9 pins on very good pocket shots. I will agree that on a light hit that the ball is fantastic.

I would guess that 8 and 9 pins are a result of either (or a combination of) too much entry angle and/or not enough deflection

The ball rolls so strong that it continues to hook no matter the drilling. For the 9 pin, the ball is rolling out so strong that it rolls right pass the 9. For the 8, the ball is creating such a strong entry angle that it kicks the 5(which takes out the 8) to the 7. It happens with brunswick equipment too; and being that MO uses the Brunswick covers, it's bound to happen with MO too. I wouldn't worry because after maybe 15 games this problem stops, well atleast for me.

I have league on Monday and I think that I will throw is some over the weekend to try to fine tune it. I love the ball reaction that I get I just need to get the angle of entry down.

I have never thrown a ball with the tremendous carry this ball has. It's just simply amazing! I have never left so many 7's, 8's and 9's with the Shock & Awe, but surprisingly not that many 10's. But with that said, I've also left some really crappy splits.

Bowldoc, what might you suggest? It has a 3-3/8 x 5-1/2 x 2 drilling with a target hole 2-1/2 " right of grip center, hole is  23/32 x 2" deep, leaving the ball with 1/2 oz pos finger, and 5/8 oz pos side. It is very angular but not skid snap.  I had one guy we bowled against last night tell me, he wished he could trow a ball so smooth and nonchalantly and get such a violent reaction out of his equipment. I told him it was the ball, not the guy throwing it, he followed up with no one in this league carries a 242 ave and can tell me it's the ball and not the bowler. LOL I told him I was just in the zone for the time being, I missed the pocket once last night, but still got a good piece of the head pin.

I figured taking it back to zero, would do it. I'll try it Saurday, I'm planning to take the night off at the shop. I'll change it Sat morn while YABA is bowling, then go try it out.

Will do, I almost hate to change it, the way it is now I can go deeper than before. Humm, sounds like one of those Stat Trek Intro's, or the beginning of an X-rated movie scene. LOL, later guys.....
