Ravage coverstock?
« on: December 04, 2005, 09:23:55 PM »
Hello,

can anybody tell me which Brunswick coverstock is used on the Ravage? I am looking for a light oil MrIch ball and have an eye on the Sahara (with the N'Control PowerBoost coverstock from the Punisher) as well as the Ravage as an alternative "below" my impressive Shock & Awe, although I haven't found a source about its coverstock material yet.

The Ravage seems to be a touch stronger than the Sahara - is it just a solid version of the Sahara, or does it use a completely different coverstock (PK 17/18 solid, or...?

Thanks in advance!

Polished PK18 solid!!

If you're going to go w/ the Ravage for lighter stuff...I'd keep it polished and put a control drill on it.......Heck.....I'd put a control drill on the Sahara too

Ah, thank you about the info, Jeff. I was guessing, and for the job I need the "weaker" ball PK 18 is definitively too much, espcially a solid version. I also guessed that the Ravage could be something like the Command Zone ARC with solid N'Control PowerStock - I have seen it perform and like its god controllability on dry ground. But PK 18 is way too much...

So, I think I will go for a Sahara, probably with the pin above the bridge and the MB at 90° (5x5 drilling). I have a Reaction Rip set up this way and it works for me very well.

Thanks a lot!

Careful!  Don't put the mass bias in a strong position or you're going to get too much kick in the back.

Yes, maybe I will tame it down a bit. The Reaction Rip CAN be trong at times, and with the asymmetrical core the Sahara will surely move dramatically. I am very impressed with my S&A (pin above ring, MB strong) and would like to have a similar reaction on lighter conditions. The higher pin should do the job, maybe placing it 1" above the bridge will add some more length. Well, I'll see... at least, I have a very experienced driller at hand, so there is support from this side, too.

Yeah, Brunswick staffer and member of German national bowling team Michael Kraemer (he sometimes pops up at Brunswick's website). He did wonders with my S&A, it fits perfectly to my game and what I wanted the ball to do, so I am very positive about the Sahara and its "tuning".

Funny thing is that nobody around here knows MoRich and their balls. My S&A turns heads everywhere and I have permanently to explain wher this ball comes from and why it moves SOOO dramatically... Just hope the Sahara will work as fine as the S&A does.

Sahara is older core.

But still a strong core.

A friend of mine is our local Morich Guru.  Though he does not "talk the talk"

He seems to be able to tweak these balls so that his bowlers and he have had marvelous results with these balls.

He has often put the mass bias on teh series of balls before the Vanguard core under the thumb or negative.  BUT our local shot supplies a ton of midlane.

but on the newer cores(vanguard) he puts all mass bias positive.

I have found with the Ravage core that I cannot get good results unless I go with a mass bias strong.  Then I love these balls!

With mass bias near thumb I get NO midlane!  But that was on used balls and used cores.

I've seen the Sahara and it moves just like my TA if drilled the same.  Just does it better on lighter oil!
