Ravage drilling
« on: July 22, 2005, 03:03:22 AM »
I just bought a Ravage and I would like to drill it to fit below my Absolute Inferno. My pap is 4 5/8 over and 3/4 up. The way my Absolute is drilled is with the pin above ring finger with cg below and to the right a little. This
drilling gives me a pretty strong arc. I would like the same reaction out of the Ravage when the lanes start breaking down a little. My speed is around 16-17 with med revs and med to high tilt. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How far is the pin from your axis point on the absolute? Also, what is the surface at and does it have a weighthole?

Tracy,

I'd suggest a similar drilling since the coverstock on the Ravage is a tad weaker and the core a bit taller which means it'll lope more and go longer.

I would then adjust the coverstock until it fit just where you wanted it.

Trauma,

Not sure of the exact distance, but I have no weighthole and the cover is box condition.

Doug,

I was thinking the same also, maybe moving the pin closer to the middle of the bridge.

Thanks for the input guys.

I was thinking going more like 4 1/2" from the axis with the pin 3 inches above the midline, and the MB around 5" from your axis.  This will give you more length for when the Absolute is hooking early, but it will still give you some pop on the backend to fight through carrydown.  You will also be able to use the ball for inside angles on medium/lighter conditions.  Make sure to keep tweaking the surface on this ball until you get it how you want it.  It took me awhile to find a surface I like on the Ravage, but I love it now.

Jeremy and Trauma,

At the risk of sounding stupid, is there anyway to kind of illustrate the 2 different set ups? One sounds like pin under fingers and one sounds like pin above. I have tried a couple of pin under drillings and so far have never work out for me. On a second note, my pro shop guy doesn't do any measuring off of the pap. The only reason I know what mine is, is because I went to another shop where I am thinking of getting the Ravage drilled. Thanks.

I highly recommend you go to a driller who measures the distances!!!!!  Everyone will agree on this.  With the pin 3 inches above you midline, it will end up above you fingers, unless you have a large span.  You shouldn't worry as much to where the pin is in relation to your fingers, but worry about how far it is away for your axis point and how high it is above your midline.   With the drilling I suggested, it will probably end up being above your bridge or possibly closer to the top of your middle finger.  Don't be alarmed by this as I told you before, it is all about the distances, not where or how it looks.  The MB placement should be anywhere between 4 1/2" to 5 1/2".  The only thing you need to know about this distance is that the closer it is to your axis point, the earlier and more arcy the ball will be, and the further away it is, the longer and sharper it will be.  For what you are looking for, I would recommend 5", as it will be arcy, but not be too early.  The key also is not only in the drilling but in the surface prep as well.  This is my main focus on my equiptment.  On your Ravage, I think 2000 wetsand/abralon pad will work quite nicely.  It will be longer than the Absolute, but it will not be jerky on the backend.
