Ball between the total shock and awe and the smokin'
« on: September 13, 2005, 11:30:34 AM »
I have a smokin' drilled with a pin to pap of 3 3/4 inches 2 in above mid.  My total is drilled with a pin to pap of 4 1/2 or slightly more with a high pin (aprox. 4 in)  the mb is kicked in slightly to give the ball more backend.  The total is in box finish and the smokin has the rough buff.  Neither have an x hole.  I am looking for a ball to fall in between these.  I have been thinking about the ultimate with either rough buff or high gloss with a similar pin to pap and about a 3 above mid.  I have a strike, and in my experience it has a very early read and a hard reving arc to the pocket.  I have always felt that the UI is a bit cleaner with more of a skid snap break that to me would be a better matchup to my game.  I was also thinking of either a skock and awe at about 800 grit (& low pin) or a TA, but the ultimate is the front runner as of right now.

If you really like the TSA ball motion Why not drill another TSA and adjust te surface to give you the length you need to fit between the two?
I am assuming of course that length is your problem, the TSA is too early and the Smokin' is a bit too long when you are thinking of making a switch?
Just drill it a for a bit more control and tweak the cover to give you the length you need.

I have a few customers with 2 TSA's. One 800 and one 2000 Abralon and they match up well. (Up here nobody but the weakest handed players can throw them out of box.)

Billy Ray, although it is box finish, a pin that far above mid is bound to give me more length.  I know I could drill it with a much closer pin to pap and get less flare, but I would rather go with drillings I have tried before.

The UI will skid snap with some polish.  I have thrown numerous UI's (courtesy of wheels02)

The point being that if you require more length you need to adjust the coverstock as it is one of the primary factors of friction. At 400 OOB it is very agressive. THat core and coverstock are very very tunable.
