shock & awe
« on: March 25, 2005, 01:02:34 PM »
I just drilled mine up and going to throw it tonight.

It's drilled 4 x 5 1/2 Pin up 2.5.

My initial impression drilling this cover is that it is soft and rubbery like.  It cut like cheese not hard like a typical cover.

It will be interesting to see how it performs tonight. I think that the ball will bite pretty well and it should have a slighty wider footprint because the cover feels soft.

I will report back on what I see.

Doc - The pin is cutting the ring finger at about the 1:00 position and the MB is to the right and below the thumb about 1 1/2"

Initial impression of throwing last night.  Lanes were a little toasted through the heads with some carrydown.  Very tough conditions as there is only one bowler averging 200 and that is Rick aka tenpinspro.  Typically on our condition if you play down a tube the ball jumps, slight swing over/under, belly it out and ping tens, must be able to repeat shots and be very accurate.  In order to do well you have to adjust every 2 frames and watch where the other bowlers are.  Often times a 5 to 7 board jump is necessary as the lines dry up quick. If I played the ball down 10 it would jump and go split city also sounded a little flat on the hit but still drove the pocket.  Ended up jumping to 35 and swinging the ball out to 10-12 board to have any decent looking line.  Outside 10 is OB in our house, the crankers often don't get the ball back.  If I sent it outside to the OB it still made it back but would leave things like a 2-8-10.  Pretty good backend.

This ball started to get scorched in the OOB condition.  It got through the heads well and after making it's move kept going even though it burned too quick in the heads.  I would definitely need more head oil on the lanes for this to work well.  It did carry alot of light and high hits.  When I did get a chance to find some decent head oil, the ball had some good backend.  Not a skid flip but then again the conditions wouldn't set up to.  I think on a fresh condition with fresh backends this ball would give that reaction.

My next step would be to sand it at 1000 and polish it.  I may go try it out at a couple more houses.  I'll report on it some more later.
