Shock & Awe Coverstock Grit
« on: April 05, 2005, 12:34:34 AM »
Did I see or hear someone say the coverstock on the S&A was a 400 grit with the Brunswick rough buff compound? I asked Fred Carroll yesterday about this but he was not certain on how to reproduce the factory finish. He first thought it needed to be sanded to 12oo grit then compound applied to closely match the factory finish, if it is the same as the AI, it would not be a 400 grit with rough buff compound, right??? Feel free to chime in guys...

400 seems awfully rough.  I would guess the Absolute may have been at 800 or so prior to being compounded with the rough buff. My S&A cover looks to be the same as my Absolute's as far as the finish goes, I would venture to say they both look to be around 800.

According to a Brunswick rep, all coverstocks are 400 unless otherwise stated. So that would make the AI a 400 before the rough buff finish is applied. I thought it might have been smoother myself, but I keep hearing 400 rough buff, does it remain at 400 or does the buffing take it up a notch or two?

the absolute is 220 grit then polish according to the brunswick charts we have.  I dont think that is is nearly as rough as this, but thats what they say
