Solid LevRG
« on: February 26, 2008, 12:58:15 AM »
Does anyone have this ball yet? I know that it does not get released until March, but there are some people that seem to get the ball early. What are the thoughts on the ball so far?

I was told that in OOB the ball seems to burn up and hit like a pillow. But with a little polish, the ball had the same reaction, but hit harder.

I noticed that the ball had the same cover and the Awesome Finish but with the EZ REV core.

I'm ready to get one when they get here. Should be next week or around there when they get here.

I highly doubt that a ball at 4000 abralon is going to burn up and hit like a pillow though. If anything the layout is just weak or not correct for the ball IMO. Probably they laid it out to arch and it just misses the break point if over powered or something.

I think when I get ahold of this one, I'm going to put a drilling that goes fairly long maybe about 35-40 ft aprox. and then have it to make a sudden change of direction. I laid out my levRG to arch and it does well so I'm going to see if I cant get this one to go longer then my LevRG and shorter then my Nsanes.

nicholas, could you give your drillings on your levrg and on your nsane and what you intend to do with the solid.  not to copy your specs but in order to get an idea which way to go in adjusting for max length and angularity.

arsenal:  nsane, labyrinth, levrg, hook, flip, rav vi, revs, sahara, seek and destroy, shock n awe, pioneer, colossus pearl, minotaur, and ice storm.

Well the LevRG was an experiment to figure out exactly how accurate the dual angle system was and its as close as could be. I drilled that one at 20 * 5 * 30 which gets me about 30 ft and it starts arching and doesn't quit till its hitting the curtain in the pit.

The Nsanes I didn't layout my self, The first one I got drilled by my proshop (which I hate on a THS, doesn't do anything like I want) its got the pin to the right of the ring and MB pretty much stacked, kicked right a little. This gave me a arching motion that starts really early and just wasn't what I wanted from this ball. I had to take it down to 2000 abralon to really get any reaction what so ever.

Second Nsane the pin is up about 3" above the ring with the MB kicked right of the thumb about 1/2". I left this one at 4000. This ball works very well on 2nd shift league but not so hot on a fresh house shot. But the first Nsane doesn't work on our house shot either. This one goes about 45-50ft before it turns but when it does, you know it. Its not a skid snap so sometimes it doesn't always make it back so you have to be careful where you throw this one.

I have to give it to these balls though, they are the best for the PBA league I bowl in. The LevRG I mostly drilled for control with a continuous hook and thats exactly what I got out of it and it doesn't over react on the shorter patterns which I really like. The Nsanes do really well as the patterns get longer but so does the LevRG. Its all about how I'm wanting to play the lanes on certain patterns. Like take for instance last night we bowled the scorpion, I tried the LevRG and it worked well as long as I didn't get into the out of bounds area too much or it wouldn't come back. That was playing about 15 out to the 7 board it worked well. But swinging it is too hard for me to stay accurate so I pulled out my sanded Nsane at 2000 and played 10-5, just nudging the outside oil and shot a 241 my first game.

The Solid I plan on puting a layout somewhere around maybe 30 * 4 1/4 * 20 and see how that goes. That should get me down the lane but not too far and give me a quick transition at the breakpoint. I haven't put a lot of thought into it as of yet till i get the ball, but once I get it I'm going to layout and make a video with all the info in there.

Anytime. I don't mind helping anyone about it. I'm not the most knowledgeable about layouts but I know what works the best for myself. Whether or not that works for everyone else its hard to say. If you have any question or something I might can help you with just let me know.

I just saw this ball available on the PBA member website.. To me, this looks very close to the numbers on the regular Lev RG. Thats strange they would make a ball so similar to the original one.

Anyone know what the big difference is?

wow, thanks for clarifying.. I thought the where close but I was obviously wrong..

quote:
The Solid LevRG has a higher RG, lower differential, lower intermediate differential and different cover when compared to the LevRG. They are not even close to being the same, these differences allow the Solid LevRG to be  cleaner through the front than the LevRG and not as sensitive to the higher friction parts of the lane.

The Solid will be an overall tamer ball, and easier top control than the Awesome Finish. The core has been changed to fit "under" the lower RG LevRG cores - more overall length, less violent reaction at the breakpoint. This ball is to push further down the lane than the other LevRGs.

Coupled with PK18 solid and a 4.000 grit surface, I expect this ball to be a very good control piece for medium conditions or later games. I suppose it comes close to the original Ravage, maybe a little rollier due to the non-polished OOB surface. Anyway, a great addition to the current arsenal.

I hope this ball will mellow enought to use on league conditions, I really don't my Mo stuff in leagues only practice and tourneys because of the amount of power they have which is way to much for most of the THS I see

The only two MoRich balls I use routinly in leagues are the Awesome Finish and the Awesome Flip both I can control off the break with the drillings I am currently using on them. The Nsane I use on Tuesdays for about 8 frames then the lane transitions and I can't get it back when I move left but I can't keep it off the face when I back my hand out of it

I will be waiting a few months before I pick up the solid I will wait and see what people say about it I have ALOT of strong stuff in the bag right now I need more controlable stuff.
