Total Shock & Awe. Totally shocked alright :-)
« on: July 28, 2005, 01:39:17 PM »

So, I got my MoRich Total Shock & Awe drilled tonight.  I copied the same layout of the MoRich Weapon of Mass Bias.  Ball is 16 pounds, 1.9 oz top, with a 3 inch pin.

Here's pictures of it after it was drilled.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v379/ANamelessNumber6/Equipment/Total%20Shock%20and%20Awe/Drilled/edit2.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v379/ANamelessNumber6/Equipment/Total%20Shock%20and%20Awe/Drilled/edit1.jpg

I get it out to the lanes and throw one game on it.  I was shocked by the reaction.  When I drilled my WMB, I threw it on soup the first outing and I was swinging fifth arrow to the ditch and it ripped back to the hole.  So, I'm hearing that the TS&A outhooks the WMB by 5-7 boards.  I'm thinking "OK" ::Rubs hands together::

So, I bring it out to the lanes and surprisingly enough, it isn't overhooking at all.  Just a nice, even reaction.  Hooks a good amount, but it isn't overbearing.  Gives you a little room to swing and it still comes back hard.  Very impressed with it.  Totally different reaction then what I was expecting, but it's not a bad thing.  It does what I wanted it to do, and it will work it's way into my arsenal quite nicely.

Here's videos of me throwing it today.

Strike:

Rips a four pin:
http://www.allbowling.com/gallery/misc.php?do=downloadfile&i=56

I was only able to throw one game with it, because of prior engagements I had to leave after it was done, but I went the first four, left a four pin, left a 10 pin, five in a row, then left a 2-5 only because I went 5-5 left in the 11th, and I struck, so I went 5-5 more and it came back light.

Can't wait to try it out tomorrow night on my sport shot league.

Did yours hook as much as you were thinking it would, or is it a lot tamer then you anticipated?

I think it was tamer than I thought but it just kept hooking which was good. I do not like skid flip drillings and this ball is just very controllable and carrys light hits very well. The first 2 league sets with it 741 and 880 (4 games) so I am looking forward to getting used to it some more..

I've only thrown my TS&A one game so far, but I love my WMB for heavier oil.  It doesn't seem to really start getting into a roll until about halfway down the lane, but it hits hard often.

I usually get it green scotch brited every 3 weeks or so.

That's a funny thing about the WMB. People either love it....or hate it....or can't figure it out. It seems to really be "release" specific. I know a guy who releases the ball with 90 degree rotation...and loves it. He shot 290 with it. But for me, who tends to use 30-45 degree releases mostly....it's ineffective...especially in hevy oil!

But the TS&A is seems to be less flippy than the S&A. Especially with a stacked drilling, which really surprised me.

A buddy of mine started a game, playing 5th arrow with his, which is drilled about 4" from PAP stacked, MB. It wouldn't make the corner. Left him with some ugly splits! Moved right a full 10 boards. Played middle arrow out to about the 7 board and BOOM!!......hook monster extraordinaire!! Very continuous on the backend, absolutely destroying the pocket. THis was a medium oil condition, synthetic lanes. Jumped from a 162 first game, to 247 second game!
Some days you're the bug....some days you're the windshield...that's bowling!

I haven't picked up my TSA yet, but since I saw a couple of post on the WMB I thought I'd mention something about it.  I have three of them, one for oil, one for medium and one for dry.  All three of them have done very well for me in my leagues.  KOTM has them set up perfectly for me.  This past year I started bowling in some tournaments so I will be getting the TSA for some of the heavier oil that I have faced.  I also have a SA that is set up between the WMB for oil and the medium WMB, and I have a Ravage that is set up between the medium WMB and the dry WMB.  I'm looking forward to see what the TSA does when I start up with my tournaments in the fall.

Now that I've thrown this ball a few games and threw it along with the WMB, I can give a better explanation of it.

Keep in mind, both the balls have the same drilling on them.

The WMB definately has a much more flippy backend.  The WMB gets into a later turn than the TS&A.  The TS&A starts a move earlier, but it's a steady turn that continues through the pocket.  The "5-7 boards more hook than the WMB" comment is correct, but the paths these two balls take are different.  The TS&A starts its move to the pocket around 3-5 feet earlier than the WMB.

you drilled it right over the lettering. Shame on you.
But that sure is a powerful ball you throw!

haha, yeah, that's how it is on the Weapon of Mass Bias, but the insert acts as the "o" on "of" so it's all good.

New news to report.  The TS&A flares so hard, it hits it's first ring of track.  My friend said it's probably the biggest flare he's ever seen on a ball.

Update on this ball since I've thrown it for a little while now.  I've thrown it the last two weeks on my Friday night sport shot league and have won 6/6 games with it, averaging almost 215 with it on two different sport shots.

Last night I had games of 226-241-208.  Missed a 10 pin in the first game, which wound up costing me a clean night.

I bowled a few games with this ball on Sunday in a tournament.  Had to put it away after about 3 games with it, because the fit wasn't feeling right when I was bowling. Dragged it out the last game and shot a 241 with it.

Recommendation:  If you get this ball, ALWAYS carry a towel and ball cleaner with you.  I have to clean this thing once every one or two games, or else you can definately see a difference in reaction.  Not much, but still a difference.

The thing I love about this thing is that it always has a nice, smooth transition to the pocket.  Never does a weird skip snap type deal.  I've had some problems on my sport shot league where it will start moving earlier, but it's still just a transitional hook, rather than a dive left or anything like that.

The ball is drilled the same as my WMB, and it is the perfect compliment to the TS&A.  The WMB goes about 5-7 feet longer and then has a lot sharper break point than the TS&A, making it available to get the same breakpoint when they dry up or get a different entry angle when they are slicker.

Just read your review of the TSA.  I want to add this to my ever growing arsenal of bowling balls.  You should put a copy of this review in the NEWLY CREATED Total Shock and Awe section of the MoRich review forum.
