Update on TA
« on: August 01, 2005, 02:16:15 AM »
I was hoping to meet up with KOTM at the Gathering, but, unfortunately, he couldn't make it.  I did work with Ron Clifton for a day, and the changes we made to my hand position and overall swing have me confident I can now use this ball effectively.  With the change, I've increased my axis tilt which has correspondingly lowered my track by 1/2" to 3/4"!!  This allows my TA to get down the lane before expending all that energy and it just tears up the rack!!  This is provided I'm seeing enough oil.  I didn't see that when working with Ron -- I bowled for 6 hours and completely fried the lane.  Took it out last Wednesday, and, to my surprise, the center actually put a great deal of oil out.  I played the TA straight up 7 and this thing was amazing!!  Anything near the pocket carried easily.  One last adjustment to open the fingers a little and it should be a strong contender to being first out of the bag!

Holy cr*p!!  This is a great ball!!  Used it for the first time in league last night after making the changes in my swing.  Went 259-240 with major chokes in the 9th of each game.  I've never seen a ball carry like this one.  Anything close to the pocket is pretty much a guaranteed strike.  When I got a little on the nose, pins game out of nowhere to take out the 4s and 7s that might have had a hope of standing.  Came very close to leaving a couple 9s, but more pins came to take them out!  But you've got to have head oil!!  Game 3 was a disaster and trying to get deeper with it just kept ringing 10 pins.  Switched to my Apocalypse just in time to salvage a 166 and followed with a 210, which included my 3rd 9th frame choke of the night (a 4-6) followed by a ditch dump on the 3rd ball in the 10th.  Overall, it was the best night EVER for me -- an 875 (4-games) with more Xs than I've ever seen!

Good shooting, it is a very impressive ball when it comes to carry when in capable hands. If you are pleased with the TA and think it carries great, you'll really be surprised if you throw the S&A or the TS&A. These two have an even more agressive core,I carry more light and heavy hits with less ringing 10's.(more messengers) More angular but I do tend to leave a few more stone 9's. I'd rather shoot at a 9 than a 10 though.

I find that the core that's in the TA/ Hercules, etc....better suits my game than the Vanguard.....but that's me......

I have seen that in a few of our local bowlers, some will score better with the vanguard and others do well with the older cores. I do well using either, I can not see any difference in scoring. Regardless of the cores they do have a different sound at impact. BAM !!!!

This seems to be the case around here, too, Jeff.  Most of the people I've seen throwing the WMB were having trouble getting it far enough right to find the pocket.  I've seen tons of huge games followed by some very not so huge games.  What I find on the Mo balls I've seen/used is if you square nut the head pin, there's a funky, hollow pin kind of sound and you're looking at a nasty 4 or 5 pin combo.  When they hit the near pocket, look out!!!

Don't know how often I'll be traveling down the Mo road.  I got the TA to try out, but I'm kind of partial to Roto Grip -- their stuff just seems to roll better for me.  So far, the TA has worked very well in very specific situations, but when things change, it's gotta come out because I just can't figure out a way to make it work.
