Well....with my elbow.....
« on: December 08, 2006, 11:14:20 PM »
I DID NOT GO THROUGH WITH IT.....got there....and running every situation through my head...I was thinking this:

I am in NO pain unless I am trying to bowl right handed...
I can do everything I did before hurting my arm...but bowl right handed..
The docs said that with my tear, (its bad) there was no guarantee I would be able to bowl right handed again...

SO...if there is no guarantee I would ever bowl again right handed...and I have no pain, and I am ok bowling left handed...WHY HAVE SURGERY and go through all the pain, rehab....for possibly NOTHING....

And even if it did get fixed and was as good or better than before...who is to say WHEN I would try to bowl again, what I would be thinking in the back of my head...if I could even bowl again....

So, without surgery, I will NEVER bowl right handed again....probably....

I have the option for surgery down the road if I wish.....

I bowled 9 games left handed last nite....averaged 170+.....with the Ravage....its coming around...

Well it sounds like you gave it plenty of time and thought, man. You have to make the right decision for YOU and YOUR FAMILY.

Even though you have not developed your physical game left handed, you still have the mental game and that's what really counts. The physical game is secondary and will come with time... Probably less time than you think.

I know you'll be successful either way, but bowling isn't really what matters in this case. What matters is that you are not in pain and that you have all the functionality with your right arm that you require. You may develop pain later in life with it. At that point you may decide the surgery is appropriate, but until that sort of thing rears it's ugly head, then you probably don't have any true motiviation to take on such an endevour, especially if it seems like it won't truely be worth while to you.

Good luck bud.

clint, i also realize that doing the operation at this time of the year,  is bad timing.  it's your busiest time in the pro shop.  i had my operation, 2 years ago on this date.  had no choice in the matter.

maybe something to think about.  do the operation in late april or early may.
that being the slow time of the year for pro shops,  may work out better for you.

again good luck

Clint,
I agree with your thinking about surgery.
I have bad knees and shoulders and have been told that they should be operated on.
The doctors can't guarantee me that they will be at least as good as they are now. So, I have good days and bad days and have learned what I can and can't do. I understand your decision completely. Good luck and keep practicing lefthanded. And welcome to the "Right" side of bowling.

I dont think doctors can ever make any kind of guarantee because of lawsuits.  Ask them about the probability (odds) involved with your operation of bowling again right-handed.

Good luck.
