Your problems results from the MB being placed at more than 90° from PAP on a strong asymmetrical ball with a high asym. RG differential. With such cores, there is the danger that the ball not only track over the thumb hole, in the worst case this MB placement causes reverse flare! As far as I know, high track players are very susceptible to such occurences.
Brunswick, for example, warns anybody to place the MB beyond the thumb hole for this reason or to put the MB on the negative side at all. Imagine a MoRich ball with an even stronger MB differential...
On symmetric balls or balls with a low MB influence, placing the MB beyond 90° from PAP is no problem.
A good ball driller should be aware of this danger, though.
