I am sure that we have all heard the phrase ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…’ many times when we continue to tweak and tinker with many different things. Well, I believe MOTIV either did not hear these words in the same sentence before or choose to ignore it. In either event, with the amount of success that has been seen with the Venom Shock, who would have predicted a follow up on the Venom line? Enter the Venom Panic, one of the few times the word ‘Panic’ will result in continued success and positive vibes. The Venom Panic presents us with an aspect of cover stock that has not been seen within the Venom line and has been missed since the release of the Shock. Although the Venom Shock has been one of the most versatile balls I have thrown; is still a Solid cover. With a Solid cover, eventually it will reach an oil pattern, broken down or fresh, the ball will burn up down lane and just will not snap out corners. The need for a ball that can get down lane and retain its energy for those broken down and short patterns became clear. MOTIV has been listening and has seen it for themselves, bringing to life a pearl cover stock wrapped around the proven Gear core. The Turmoil MFP Pearl Reactive cover provides us with additional length and more angular motion that what has been seen from the Venom Shock. The irony of this particular ball is that some tend to ‘panic’ with a Lengthy, angular ball reaction as they can be rather jumpy and an over/under reaction is seen, but the panic actually provides the exact opposite. Despite the length and the angular motion down lane, the Venom Panic offers a much smoother transition as the ball responses to the friction down lane.
The first night I had unleashed this ball on the lanes at my league night, it was clear from the first shot what the ball was capable of. Now, for those of you who have reviewed my posts in the past know that I bowl in 2nd shift leagues all season long. So I’m normally bowling on a broken down house shots about 85-90% of the time. Although I have been successful with my Venom Shocks multiple times on these conditions, there are just nights that they refuse to knock all 10 pins down in one shot for the very reasons explained above. The Panic on the other hand, I may have mentioned this before, but my two teammates are both Storm/Roto-Grip fans, let’s just say, although they will deny it, there was surprise in their faces and were impressed at what I was able to accomplish with the Venom Panic. Within a month of punching up my Venom Panic, I thrown 300 the 3rd game of my set after switching to this ball without a single test shot in the previous 2 games. This ball is as advertised my friends, the length was able to allow me to actually play more up the boards as I was able to get the ball down lane much easier without over powering my shot. Although it has a very fast response to friction, it’s difficult to truly describe the way this ball transitions, there an evident angle seen when the ball flips but more of an arcing response rather than actually sharp angle that is seen in most skid\flip reactions.
