Cruel C51 LE
« on: December 31, 1969, 06:00:00 PM »
Ball NPS Score: 100.00
The Limited Edition Cruel C51 contains the crazy-strong Cruel asymmetric core and a new additive to increase surface texture (Higher Ra) of the Black and Red Formula-5 Pearl Reactive coverstock. This feature helps low to moderate rev bowlers cross more boards down the lane in medium to heavy oil. High rev bowlers will find that this additive provides a smooth, strong backend motion.

Bowler Stats-Ball Speed 17 MPH Rev Rate-App 280 Axis of Rotation-30 to 60 degrees Axis Tilt 20 degrees Right Handed

The Cruel C51LE ball is designed for medium, heavy or long oil patterns. The ball performs as advertised. It pushes through the heads with ease as on fresh shots or whenever it can find oil in the heads and mids. As the ball gets to the midlane the core starts to take over, albeit later then the C51, and you can visually see the ball rev (thanks to the Neomark graphics) up. As the ball finds the friction a very strong borderline flippy reactions occurs. I am able to use the C51LE playing both down the boards, swinging it out to the dry, or playing deep but not far right. The ball recovers very well making an aggressive move when it encounters friction.  When the volume in the heads starts to wear out, the ball picks up earlier and leaves weak corner pins. As long as the Cruel LE has sufficient head and midlane oil it is a very effective ball.  In comparison to the original Cruel C51 the LE goes a little longer before reading and the total hook is about 2 boards more.  Because of the more aggressive backend reacion I have been able to play deeper in the heads with the LE then the original Cruel and still maintain carry.

The CruelLE does not seem to have a surface preference as it reacted well on all surfaces.

If you use this ball as designed on fresh or long oil patters, it is a very effective ball. To throw it on a broken down THS or a Sport Condition with a few games will take more ball speed then I have.

The C51LE gives Motiv a piece of equipment for Motiv believers to step up from the Cruel to cover more boards or cover as many boards as the TR2's while creating the correct angle to carry. While I've found the TR2 to be most effective up the boards, the LE can be played up the boards, or playing left to right as well as allowing deeper lane play then with the C51. I'm very colorblind but I've heard from multiple bowlers that the ball is very pleasing to the eye and will give it good shelf appeal.

Type (THS, Sport Pattern etc): USBC Open Pattern

COMMENTS

Right handed, rev rate is 300 and speed is 15.5 at the pins.

Likes:    The LE gives me a couple of feet more length the the original Cruel but  overall hook is very close. It's where the ball hooks that is different.  The LE give me more down lane hook and recovery with the same great  hitting power. The carry with the Cruel core has been very good. In box finish the LE will handle med to med heavy oil. Add a little more  surface it will handle the really heavy stuff. The LE is versatile enough to be  your first or second ball out of the bag with the right surface prep. With sport patterns I can start with the original Cruel and switch to the LE after I get a little transition. Got to use this ball in Reno for team event games 2-3. Surface was 2k with 5-6 games. Surface had shined up a little. Had a very good look playing 9 out to 7. Went plus 52 the last 2 gms for a 663. The carry I get with the Cruel line has been excellent.

The Motiv Cruel LE is a very adjustable, controlable piece of equipment.

Layout: 55 x 25 x 3.5 w/ P2 hole
Surface: adjusted to 1000

Where everyone on my pair of lanes had to adjust all night, I was able to stay in my grove. The cover of the ball provided the extra length through the breakdown on the lanes and the strong asymetrical core of the ball was able to recover on errand shots.

If you can get your hands on one of these gems before they are gone, I strongly suggest you should.

High rev / Hi speed bowlers should expect a smoother reaction from the ball
Low rev / Low speed bowlers should expect a stronger reaction from the ball by design.

The cover of the ball adjusts very well to surface changes. The 2000 out of box finish was too lengthy for me and i had to bring it down to 1000 to get the shape and reaction I expected from the lay out. Don't be afraid to adjust the surface of the ball, your local pro shop can always take it back to factory if you don't have your own ball spinner.

BALL REACTION

Length:  clean through the fronts w/ aggressive midlane read

Back End: strong continuous arc

Overall  Hook: high, covers the same amount (if not more) of boards as the TR2  which comes from the factory at 800 grit wet sand.

Midlane Read: very strong and noticeable. it's difficult to throw this ball through the breakpoint.

Breakpoint  Shape: strong arc. not a flipper, but very good continuation and allows  the bowler to play the backend of the lane more.

COMMENTS

Likes:  Strong core/cover combo that allows one to move deeper on the lane and  swing/belly the ball more. good for heavier/longer conditions. very  aggressive bowling ball.

Dislikes:  on anything less than medium I strongly suggest keeping this ball in  the bag. the strong core/cover combo doesn't favor shorter, drier lane  conditions.

MOTIV's new Cruel C51 LE is a great addition to the lineup. The cover tweek MOTIV has made, I believe, makes this ball one of the best balls on the market. The new cover with a higher RA value (think more "teeth" in the cover) allows speed dominate players (like myself) to take better advantage of the strong core the Cruel has. Where the original Cruel sometimes had too much midlane burn up for me, the LE gives a bit more length and a much stronger motion at the end of the pattern. This was especially noticable on a longer (43 foot) USBC White pattern. The clean defined turn at end of the pattern was predictable and consistant, especially as we migrated left. The core strength allowed for midlane through the middle lane oil, but the new cover allowed the recovery at the pattern end. A big improvement, in my eyes, over the Original Cruel.

Another positive will be for the softer handed league player who wants core strength with a good backend reaction. The higher RA value will help those with "less hand" in the same way it helps speed dominant players, with a stronger read off the end of the pattern. I believe this ball will be a THS (league) killer! Out of the box on my THS league ball gave me 279, 249 (with 7/10), 238, 268 for the first 4 thrown (all first night). The look was strong and predictable.

Because of the predictability of the reactions that MOTIV balls tend to give, along with the strength and tuneability of the Cruel LE, I believe this ball will be great on Sport and tougher conditions, such as the USBC Nationals lane petterns where strength is needed, but not a skid/flip reaction.

I only wish the ball wasn't a limited supply ball. So GET ONE SOON, before they are all gone.

COMMENT

Likes: Ball Motion and carry. This is another great ball from MOTIV. I wanted to hold off on my review until I had the chance to use this ball on several different patterns. We use the USBC White pattern for our house shot, although it's 43 feet, it gives you really good bounce on the outside. I used this ball in a PBA Regional on the Chameleon Pattern also, and in a few local tournaments. This ball rolls well on everything I could throw it on, not just heavy oil, this ball is very versatile.

I used a 60x45@4 layout, this gave me a very smooth transition off the friction and really good roll and backend in the puddle. If you like your equipment to "buy" you a few strikes here and there, this is a must addition to your bag.

The only issue with this ball is it is a limited edition and may not be around much longer, so get one NOW.

We have drilled a few of theses for customers and they all say this ball is SMOOTH and hits like a tank, they have added other MOTIV equipment to there bags.

Born in the USA

Motiv has done it AGAIN......The Cruel C51 LE is the second asymmetrical core bowling ball in the Cruel series. This low RG (2.48) and core combination will create easy revs through the front section of the lane. Both the C51 and C51 LE share the same maxed out Diff, so this ball has the potential of up to six inches of total flare. The C51 LE has an OOB finish of 2000 wet which makes the ball very versatile on different lane patterns. The pearlized finish seemed to help the ball turn the corner a lot stronger than the original C51. The continuous backend motion and strong mid lane control makes the C51 LE a double threat on the lanes.

This ball is a GREAT addition to the well-built line of MOTIV balls.

My observations:   This is now my new benchmark ball. This is going to be the first ball out of my bag. I can attack the lanes from any angle with this ball. It is the perfect 1-2 punch with the original CRUEL and the new Cruel le. I find the LE to be about 3-4 boards stronger than the original Cruel with less midlane and more contination down lane. I find that with when if I get lost this ball helps give me the read I need to help get back on track. I have seen many different bowling styles throw this ball and must say it fits any type of bowlers game. Yet another great ball by MOTIV! Keep up the good work!

The Cruel C51 LE is another beast of a ball! As compared to the original Cruel, the LE gets down lane further before reacting hard off the break point. I chose to put a less known layout on my LE (75x4 1/4x35) and this placed the pin in a stacked position (right hand) making my break point shape stronger, it placed the cg right of the mid line by 1/4" and placed the MB indicator left of my thumb by 1/2". By placing the MB left of my thumb, I am able to more of an aggressive arc shape to the ball rather than a skid/flip reaction that typically comes with stacking pin and cg. By doing this, I am still able to use the ball on sport patterns such as Scorpion playing up 8 on anvilane surfaces. The ball doesn't lose any recovery with this layout and for me is more controllable off the break point. Another great ball from the MOTIV factory!! It truly is a CRUEL world.

The Bowler:

Left handed

Ball speed = 17

Rev Rate = 400

PAP = 5 ¾, 3/8 up

The Ball: Motiv Cruel LE

Ball Specs = 15# 2.48 RG, .060 Diff, .030 Mass Bias

Layout = 75x3.5x20

Axis Migration with layout = 7 inches

Surface =2000 polished

The new Cruel LE has a strong Hybrid cover that stands out not only on the lane but on the ball return. This red and black beast rips the heavy oil to shreds, with a bit more length and stronger backend then then original Cruel. The LE uses the same core, but Motiv added a bit more pearl to the mix. In doing so they also raised the RA value a bit making the ball read the oil pattern even stronger. With the layout chose I can use the ball on most medium heavy sport shots, and even some house shot if they pony up and put out enough oil. The LE for me rolls hard in the mid lane, and reads the backend even stronger than the original cruel making for a killer ball to start off with on longer patterns. I love the predictable roll in the middle of the lane, and super strong ark on the backend. I would caution drilling this ball to roll early unless you have an excess of ball speed, because the Cruel core wants to start revving right off your hand, and if you’re not paying attention you’ll believe the ball isn’t hooking. In reality the core is trying to turn over to soon. I would recommend placing the pin no closer than 4 inches to your pap in order for the ball to retain more backend for most conditions.

In short unleash the POWER of the Cruel LE on the heavy oil!!!

I have personally tested this bowling ball on three different types of bowling lanes which were wood, overlays, and synthetic. I bowl with Ball Speeds 15 MPH to 17 MPH, Right Handed.

The Cruel C51LE ball is designed for medium, heavy or long oil patterns. The ball performs as advertised. It pushes through the heads with ease as on fresh shots or whenever it can find oil in the heads and mids.  As the ball gets to the midlane the core starts to take over, a little later then the C51, and you can visually see the ball rev up.  As the ball finds the friction a very strong reactions occurs turning the ball left.  I am able to use the C51LE playing both down the boards, swinging it out to the dry, or playing deep but not far right. The ball recovers very well making an aggressive move when it encounters friction. As long as the Cruel LE has sufficient oil through the heads and midlane it is a very effective ball. In comparison to the original Cruel C51 the LE goes a little longer before reading and the total hook is about the same.  Because of the more aggressive backend reaction I have been able to maintain carry compared to the Cruel C51.

The Cruel LE reacted well on all surfaces.

The C51LE gives Motiv a piece of equipment to cover more boards or cover as many boards as the bowler wants.  While I've found the Cruel LE to be most effective up the boards, the LE can be played up the boards, or playing left to right as well as allowing deeper lane play. I have scored more than I can count 278 and 279’s than I can count. I am please to say that I love this ball but you have ensure that you stay in the oil or add more ball speed to keep it online.

This has been moved from the MOTIV general discussion board. Were I originally posted it.The Cruel LE uses the same asymmetrical core as the original Cruel C51.What is
new is a new pearlized reactive Formula 5 coverstock.
The box finish is 2000 sanded and polished with MOTIV Power Gel Polish.
The color is red with black swirl and silver and white logos.
RG. 15lbs. 2.48, RG Diff. 15lbs .060, MB 15lbs. .030, Flare-6"+,
Lane conditions-Medium oil-oily.

My information-
Right-handed, Ball speed-16mph average,Rev Rate-280-300 rpm's,
Axis Rotation-45 degrees,Axis Tilt-15 degrees
PAP-5 1/4" over and 1 1/4 up

Specs of ball tested
15lbs 4oz. Top weight-3.4oz. Pin 3.3'
Ball surface-OOB 2000 sanded and polished with MOTIV Power Gel Polish
Drilling-70x45@4 1/2" P1 hole,2" deep,with 1" bit

Lanes Tested On
3year old Pro Anvilanes,8 year old Anvilanes,11 year old Anvilanes,
Patterns-41' THS, 40' oilier house shot,37' and 41' Blue pattern,
2011 USBC Queens pattern,2011 USBC Women's National pattern.

MOTIV is defining what it means to produce quality bowling balls.Products
that fill gaps rather than producing a ball that fits over a current product.
And the Cruel LE adds another diamond in the line-up of current MOTIV gems.
The Cruel LE has a new pearlized coverstock. The pearl cover increases
the ease through the heads. The midlane roll is very defined and quick.
The LE about 1 1/2'-2' more length than the original Cruel C51.The LE
response to the friction is quick and defined. This LE corners harder
than the Original Cruel C51,with a very strong arc at the breakpoint.
The backend recovery of the LE was very impressive.I could send
it wide without fear of it not recovering. And the continuation through
the pin deck helped with carry.
I have used the ball on a wide variety of patterns. It handled all of them, just
adjust the surface as needed and watch the LE shine. The only patterns
the Cruel it not intended for is dry.
The Cruel LE another winning ball in the MOTIV line. This ball fits
nicely between the Cruel C51 and the Primal TV4.
