The Motiv Forge line of bowling balls continues with the Motiv Forge Fire. This high performance ball introduces the Infusion Hybrid Reactive coverstock which offers a faster reaction to the friction on the lane than its predessesor, the original Forge. The Forge Fire also utilizes the low RG and high differential symmetrical Detonator core. This ball is great at creating angle for various types of bowlers when facing medium to heavy oil.

Motiv Forge Fire Review:

   The Forge Fire is Motiv’s New Medium/Heavy end ball. I loved the original Forge so I was super excited for this release. The Fire features the new Infusion Hybrid cover stock wrapped around the Detonator core. For me it reads the mid lane sooner then the OG Forge but doesn’t over react and still keeps a strong continuation through the pins. I used a stronger layout on the new Fire, using a 4.5’ pin layout. My layout helped the ball keep a strong smoother reaction overall without being crazy off the spot. The cover stock also helps it retain the extra energy through the pins. Overall if you like bigger symmetrical pieces or are looking for a big Hybrid piece, this is the ball to go to!

Born from the combined might of two new and exciting technologies, the MOTIV Forge Fire has burst onto the scene for those looking for a medium-heavy oil ball. To create a new standout ball that would combat these conditions, a marriage of previous 2019 releases took place. The Detonator core (2.47RG, .055Diff) first used in the Forge has been brought back because of its hard-revving action and flare-producing potential. The Infusion reactive cover was then beefed up into a hybrid version (finished at 4000 LSS) in order to provide more surface traction in the oil while still utilizing its natural quick response time when friction is found. While that stand out yellow and burgundy color is amazing, it’s the reaction on the lane that has wowed me the most.
   Having enjoyed my Forge quite a bit, I laid the Fire out the same way figuring that the VAL angle and the quicker responding shell would allow me to open up the lane more than that original; oh it did. Even on a fresh THS you can see the ball starting to churn early in the midlane thereby helping to read and blend the pattern a little bit. Even with that effect happening, the Infusion coverstock still retains an impressive amount of energy allowing for a pronounced motion off the friction. This rare combination of midlane control with aggressive backend finish creates an extremely versatile ball that has allowed me to attack the lane at a multitude of angels across multiple arrows. The most impressive showing I have had to date was when I started game one laying down at 18 and crossing at 14 then finishing the three-game set still throwing the Fire laying down 33 and crossing 22. For comparison, when throwing my original Forge I could start the day on a similar line but would have to ball down in game two because the angle of attack just became too much for the ball to make the turn and slap out the ten. I have also found that the Fire reads a solid two to three feet sooner than my Rogue Assassin even though it has a stronger pin to PAP layout (4”). The only time I have truly run into trouble with this ball to date is when there is not enough oil in the heads to get the ball down the lane. The aggressive combination of cover and core necessitates that oil be plentiful up front to unleash this ball’s full potential.
   To me the Forge Fire is an aggressive benchmark ball. If you need something that will hook in the oil that will also give you a bit of forgiveness by creating room with response to downlane friction, this ball is a must have in your bag.

The Forge Fire has been an instant first ball out of the bag for me since making its debut. It has become my new bench mark, although it is on the stronger side.
The Fire has the angular Infusion cover that was first used on the Ripcord, allowing bowlers to create angle on heavier oil patterns. This cover gives a quicker response to friction, therefore creating more angle than the original Forge. I’ve been able to use this ball on your typical house shot, playing further left on the lane than I normally can on fresh with other balls.
I’ve seen a good transition from trident abyss to forge fire to ripcord throughout a block of tournament play. When I moved left to a point I can’t create the angle I needed with the abyss, this ball was there to get through the front and give me strong back end without having to really change where I want to play on the lanes. That last statement is huge for me, I’m a bowler who would rather change balls than move from an area of a lane that I’ve already become comfortable in if I can.
I’ve seen great things from the Forge Fire from a variety of players, and it is definitely a stand out with the color scheme. Go out, get one, and shoot some scores.

Forge Fire
I usually do not match up well with hybrid covers, but the Infusion Hybrid Reactive cover and low rg Detonator core to me make the Forge Fire a must have... Whether you bowl mostly house or are a tournament player, this ball will allow you to open up the lane in ways pearl or reactive separately may start to burn up or be too slow. I'm a rev dominant, medium speed player, and the Forge Fire allows me to create much steeper angles when the back ends get torched, while also giving great continuation.

The original Forge is a great ball for heavier oil when you want a smooth, round, predictable shape. It has bailed me out of a lot of tough situations since it was released. The Forge Fire takes that rolly core that was on the original Forge, but puts the same hybrid coverstock on it that was on the RipCord. The result is a ball that has the ability to read the pattern well, but gives you more length and more flip on the backend to help maximize your carry. If you liked the Forge and want something to compliment it when you move left, or even if you didn't think the Forge would have been good for you because you wanted more flip in your higher-end ball, then the Forge Fire is definitely something you'll want to look at. It's had great success on the PBA Tour as well. Plus that awesome bright yellow!!!

In the Forge Fire you have the same continuation that was presented to you in the original Forge and while they are similar in terms of the Detonator core they do differ at the coverstock and box finish, the Forge coverstock is Coercion HFS at Coercion HFS 3000 LSS and the Forge Fire is Infusion Hybrid Reactive at 4000 LSS.

Forge Fire will provide you more length and backend motion than that of Forge, however Forge will provide you with more overall hook and is earlier upfront due to Coercion being the stronger coverstock of the two.  Forge Fire will allow you to create more angle of heavier patterns because of its quicker response time to friction to that of the original Forge, this is what makes Fire Forge a great complement to the original Forge.   Another major plus about Fire Forge is its color scheme as you will be able to tell what it’s going to or not going to do, you can see it go through all three of its phases because of its bright color scheme.   Using the combination of a burgundy scotch brite pad and a 2000 abralon pad with greatly increase its continuation and the angularity will become slower and more controllable than what it is out of box, ideal for those that want a slower pace of ball motion.


Strengths

Forge Fire is very responsive at the breakpoint and although it is not our strongest weapon in terms of providing down lane motion, it offers plenty of motion off the spot.

Fire Forge provides a big move from a backend standpoint, for what it provides it was still easy to control the pocket.


Weaknesses

Forge Fire can produce too much hook for your liking encountering heavy friction.


Fire Forge does as advertised and is a valuable benchmark.  I use mine in tandem with Golden Jackal as the ball motion is similar, I’ve maintained success on a variety of conditions save for extreme friction. Don’t worry about playing with fire.  That’s your opponents job.  I encourage you to give Fire Forge a look.

Your game will thank you for it.

The Forge Fire is a great addition to the ever growing amazing lineup of Motiv balls! This ball gets thru the fronts with ease, reads the mid lane and and gets into a nice heavy roll into the pocket. It is a strong ball but not over reactive off the end of the pattern.  Definitely something you can get left with and not worry about losing any carry. Compared to the og Forge, it is longer and stronger, whereas the Forge picks up earlier and has a rounder shape to it.  The 2 layouts I used 60x5.75"x30 which puts the pin above the bridge and 50x3.5"x35 which is a stronger layout with the pin just right of my ring finger, making the ball reaction very round. Its also the ball featured in the attached YouTube video.
