Motiv Rogue Assassin Review

The Rogue Assassin is Motivs new mid level solid. This Ball gives an early, strong, and controllable shape down lane. The Rogue Assassin was built for med-high volumes of oil. Being rev dominate I drilled mine with a 5.5’ pin layout to help this ball preserve a little energy as it gets down the lane. This allows me to move left with it when I have to and keep control of the breakpoint as the lanes transition. The Rogue Assassin fits between the Forge and Venom Shock with its Motion. The shape it creates is cleaner then the Forge but earlier then the Shock. Overall less motion then the Forge on the lanes but tad more motion then what the Shock gives. If you’re looking for your next benchmark ball check out the Rogue Assassin!

Rogue Assassin
Coverstock:  Coercion HFS Reactive
Core: Sigma (Symmetric)
Surface: 3000 Grit LSS
Length: 14
Backend: 16
Flare Potential: 5+
Layout : 90 x 2 ¼ x 45

The was an idea to create a weapon that was capable of being a control benchmark on medium oil,  capable of  providing traction in the oil, and to provide a controllable down lane motion,  The end result was the Rogue Assassin.  The Sigma core is our benchmark standard as it provided bowlers with stability that dates back to the SX1, SR2, Sigma Hybrid, Sigma Tour, Sigma Sting, Forza SS and Rogue Blade.

Coercion is our proven coverstock that’s been utilized on heavier oil weaponry is intended to increase friction on heavier conditions so Rogue Assassin will allow you to assassinate, Coercion provides more traction in the oil than Rogue Blade’s Hexion SE cover and has a box finish of 3000 to the 4000 of Rogue Blade.

The aggressiveness of the Coercion coverstock makes it smoother at the breakpoint compared to weapons such as Rogue Blade, Ripcord, and Villain Scorn however it does possess more overall total hook,  I consider this trait to be a plus because attached to the overall strong hook is the strong continuation. Much like with Trident Abyss Rogue Assassin is best suited for heavier conditions, and Coercion offers more overall total hook compared to Golden Jackal, T10, and Ripcord.  As aggressive as Rogue Assassin is it does require oil upfront to perform at a desirable level, short oil patterns didn’t quite give me the ball motion I was looking for and at that point I audibled out to a smaller weapon.

Rogue Assassin will offer you more overall hook than its predecessor Rogue Blade, as I fan of the Sigma Core it was a no brainer why it was love at first roll. Assassin’s use weapons of assassination to assassinate so I encourage you to take a look at Rogue Assassin.

Your game will thank you for it.

Layout:
   90 x 4” x 25

What happens when you take the Coercion HFS coverstock from the Jackal Ghost, finish it at 3000 LSS, and then wrap it around the famous Sigma core (2.47RG, .047Diff)? You get a combination that gives no warning to the pins or your opponents. The Rogue Assassin is a solid medium to medium-heavy benchmark ball that gives the predictability, versatility, and control that is to be expected with that moniker. This cover/core combination provides good traction throughout the lane allowing you to read the pattern well while still retaining enough energy to drive through to the pit with power.

I put a 4” pin on mine as I wanted to utilize the power of the core a little more than the cover (I love the Sigma core). In tandem with that, by placing the pin higher up I was trying to get a little more torque off of the spot when it was time for the roll phase of the Assassin’s reaction. The final product produced was exactly as I thought it would be. On the typical medium house condition that I have thrown this on, the ball is a beast in terms of overall power. The midlane read is quite strong, really blending out the pattern from the early skid-snap effect it tends to have. Given this early revving action, the back end of the Assassin is quite tame, producing a smooth and controlled shape. At no time in any of my shots have I seen this ball jump early or take an unannounced lane-change left. While I have been able to get to the pocket from quite a few angles, this ball shines its brightest when you can keep your line more in front of you rather than trying to launch it across many boards. I will say, though, that I was pleasantly surprised that a little hand change at my release actually allowed me to open up and carry even more than expected, truly showing off the versatility this ball provides to a multitude of styles.

If you need a benchmark ball that gives you the power and predictability needed to read, and take advantage of, fresher conditions, the Rogue Assassin is tough to beat.

The Rogue Assassin is the best of both worlds..  Possibly the best core MOTIV ever produced in the Sigma Core and Possibly the best cover stock MOTIV came out with in the Coercion HFS. You have the core from the Sigma ball line and the cover from the Jackal Ghost. What else could you ask for?

This ball is a great addition to my bag. This ball has a RG of 2.47 and a DIFF. of .047. It is also LASER SCANNED SANDED at 3,000 grit.
This ball is great on the fresh house shot or moderately broken down shot. So this ball should be good for all 3 games of league, day in and day out depending on your centers house conditions. Also, this ball pairs really nice with the Venom Recoil and the Rip Cord.

The Motiv Rogue Assassin features my favorite cover and favorite core that Motiv has to offer. The Coercion HFS Reactive cover is also found on the Jackal Ghost, easily one of the best Asymmetric balls on the market. The Sigma core has been a core that Motiv has used 7 times, and this may be its best audition yet. The Assassin is the ideal benchmark ball for all bowlers due to the core numbers of (15 lb) 2.47 RG allowing the ball to rev up quickly, .047 diff keeps the ball from burning up and the Coercion cover allows the ball to have a controllable continuation down lane. If you are in the market for a benchmark, do not overlook the Rogue Assassin!

At first glance, I was very hesitant to pick up this ball. Being a full roller and not matching up with the Rogue Blade, the strength of cover and core worried me that the ball would be too much, too early. After watching a fellow staffer using it and talking about it, I decided to give one a go.
Boy, was I wrong! The angle downlane is very much like my Jackal Ghost - smooth, but arc-y. The amount of hook is crazy! It covers more boards than my Ripcord, but still feels extremely controllable.
Definitely feel free to let this ball do the work for you. On my local house shots, I tend to play between 15 and 20 at the arrows and have a break point around 5. I just really enjoy not having to hit the ball and let it hook itself. This ball is great for bowlers who tend to not be rev-dominant, unless you like being over the gutter cap!
My recommendation is a medium-long pin to PAP distance for most bowlers (3.5"-5"). The box surface was tremendous, but I typically change my ball surface before putting them in the bag. My Rogue Assassin was hit with 1000/3000, but I'm going to be experimenting with 500/2000 and 2000 polished at my next practice session to see if I can create more variety for sport shots.
It is definitely the top of my bag at the moment and I've been happily breaking it out at league whenever possible.

MOTIV's new Rogue Assassin has one of the most successful cover and core combinations in the company's history. It has the Core of the Sigma series and the cover of the Jackal Ghost. For me, the result has been a ball that grabs in the oil and revs up exceptionally hard in the backend. I drilled it up and my first game of league out of the box was a 300 game! I have found that whenever the conditions start to get tricky, the Rogue Assassin always finds a way to the pocket. And it hits harrrrrrrrd. If you're looking for a dependable ball that has the potential to be great on anything but the most extreme conditions, the Rogue Assassin is probably close to what you're looking for.  I also did a Youtube review of the Rogue Assassin - you can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1Jdgte057Y

The combination of the proven Sigma Core and the
Coercion HFS cover (found in the Jackal Ghost) help make the Rogue Assassin a perfect benchmark ball. This ball provides me with a consistent read of the pattern through the middle of the lane, and a continuous motion down lane into the pins. With less hook overall than the Jackal Ghost, the Assassin becomes a great ball on tricky lane conditions when controlling the pocket is a must. This is a must have for anyone looking to add a great benchmark shape to their arsenal!

The Rogue Assassin is a great benchmark ball.  It is both strong and smooth, giving it the ability to blend out the oil pattern and create a nice, even ball reaction.  When the lanes start to transition, this is the ball to go to.  The layout I used was 50x3.5"x35 which puts the pin just right of my ring finger.

Assassination!

When this ball came out, I was very excited to throw it! The Ghost Cover with the trusted Forza Core made this ball a must have! The Ghost coverstock gives this ball the ability to read and pick up in heavier oil patterns for a symmetrical ball, the Assassin did not disappoint and I am so happy to have this in my bag! it is a great fit for when the Ghost is too much and the Fire goes just a little too long to carry the corner pins.

ROGUE ASSASSIN is the ball everyone needs to have. This ball gives you some grab from the cover stock to make sure to carry the corner pins  with a controlled backend. It creates the forgiveness we all want and need.

The only way to describe this ball is versatile. Using Coercion HFS found on the Jackal Ghost combined with the proven Sigma Core, it’s a win win combination. This ball is great for any level of bowler whether you are a once a week bowler or a 3-4 times a week/ tournament bowler, it’s a must have. It works as a benchmark ball and it’s also great on transition. The cover loves oil and it provides the right amount of traction while maintaining enough energy for just the right moment to unleash it. The core cover combination provides great continuation and hitting power ever bowl loves. I highly recommend this ball.
