Reaction: MOTIV is marketing the ball as controlled angularity…as you’ll see from the video it’s possible. Think of a ball that is still very clean in terms of length, but instead of it happening all at once it’s a just a little more gradual. I have used the Forza Redline as my benchmark ball since it has been released and it’s my go to ball on house patterns. The Paranoia has now taken some of that time away, as it allows me to play in similar spots with my feet, but really opens the lane up left to right. The key is that the Paranoia doesn’t bounce too hard off of the friction either, resulting in great carry. I also like it in terms of hook potential as well. It doesn’t force me too far left on the fresh causing me to see the wet/dry that you often see on house patterns. So far on tougher patterns if you are looking for something that will really create some shape down lane, yet give you some control, this is going to be that piece. Especially, if you aren’t looking for something that is overly strong or overly week.

Comparisons: I will be comparing the Paranoia to 3 balls in MOTIV’s current line. First, I find the Octane Burn to be actually a little earlier, close in response to friction but I would have to give the edge to the Paranoia, and the Octane Burn is a few boards less overall in terms of hook potential. Next, the Primal Rage is close in terms of length, responds a little faster to friction, but the Paranoia is a little more continuous and the Primal Rage also hook a few more boards overall. Finally, the Forza Redline is earlier, smoother and once again provides more overall hook potential. I think the Paranoia has become a key ball for MOTIV as it provides a lot of shape down lane but isn’t too strong or too weak.

Summary: Well, this ball really gets down the lane and really allows me to cover some boards without sacrificing carry. It has become a benchmark ball for when I need some steeper angles. Once again this release provides great continuation, which honestly seems to be the case with every MOTIV release.
