Ball NPS Score: 100.00

Condition: Medium Oil

Core: Impulse™

Cover: Atomix™ SFP Reactive

Weights: 12# - 16#

Ball Color: Blue / Lime Pearl

NeoMark Color: Hot Pink Pearl / Black

Finish: 2000 Wet Sand / Power Gel® Polish

The new Primal Impulse is the first skid-flip ball from MOTIV.  It  features new Atomix SFP Reactive coverstock and the new dual-density  Impulse core.  This is an outstanding piece of equipment!  Engineered  for medium oil, the ball is very long and clean down the lane with a  fast backend transition and incredible drive through the pins. When you  want to swing the ball across the lane on a beat-up oil pattern and have  it unleash off the dry, the Primal Impulse is the ball you want in your  hand.
If the bowling industry had “Best Core Design Awards”, we believe  MOTIV’s new Impulse™ would be the slam-dunk winner!  We’re talking high  RG and dual-density on this new high performance core. It provides the  15# ball with a 2.60 RG to get you down the lane with ease and a .050  differential for track flare of 5”+.  The dual-density design maximizes  the backend reaction through complex physics we won’t get into, but the  bottom line is outstanding ball motion.
The look of this ball is crazy too!  MOTIV complimented the insane ball  performance with a color scheme that demands attention.  Hot Pink Pearl  and Black NeoMark graphics are integrated with a Blue Pearl and Lime  Pearl coverstock.  You WILL notice this ball on the lanes and on the  shelf in the pro shop.  It screams – LOOK AT ME!

What a great addition to the MOTIV line.  This is truley a skid/flip ball.  I've been able to get some of the other releases to go long and flip on the back with layouts and surfaces, but this ball provides that look without drilling it to do so.  The only other ball that gets through the front part of the lane even close to this, in my opinion, is the sigma tour and recon pearl.  But the new Primal Impulse will get through the fronts with ease and explode on the back!

If you are in need of a ball that will get you down the lane when other stuff like the Raptor, Cruel, Sigma Tour are checking up too early, this is the ball for you.  Of if you are in need of something to get your feet left (if you're right handed) and send it right after the pattern has been bowled on some, and still get the ball to recover...this is the ball for you.

I've punched up 3 of these so far, with different surfaces and layouts.  It takes to these changes well and still gives you push through the fronts and a strong recovery on the back.  Definitly give this ball a look, because it will fill a hole in your MOTIV lineup with a reaction that hasn't been offered from MOTIV before this.

I will have a video comparision of this awesome release posted shortly.

Review:

The All NEW Primal Impulse is the first true skid/flip ball produced by Motiv. I recently drilled two Primal Impulses and they did not fail to impress. The Primal Impulse filled that gap in my arsenal between the Sigma Tour and the QZ2 Backdraft. I've thrown the Primal Impulse on a variety of typical house shots ranging from 38-41 feet. It clears the front part of lane with ease and saves all of its energy for a very angular move in the backend. The backend on this ball is incredible!!! This has quickly become my favorite "IN" ball. I am able to play further inside and create lots of angle on the backend without sacrificing pin carry. Comparing my two differently drilled Primal Impulse's. Ball one picks up sooner in the midlane and has a smooth but still angular move on the backend. Ball two gets further down the lane and responds even harder off the dry, making the most angular move I have ever seen from Motiv. This is a must have ball in my opinion The Primal Impulse is set to release on Black Friday November 25, 2011. Order yours TODAY!!!! Get MOTIVated!!!!!

If you’re looking for a Skid-Flip ball… this is the one for you. The Primal Impulse goes long with an aggressive breakpoint – even though I drilled mine with a mild layout. (80* x 5 1/2 x 35*).  When using this ball on a fresh house shot, It allows me to play a more angular shape to the friction. The dramatic change of direction – along with the eye-catching color scheme of the ball turns heads. “What ball are you throwing!?!”

While it is a fun ball to play on a house shot…

(Here is a video of me rolling a Primal Impulse on a fresh “Main Street” pattern:

…I had the pleasure of using this piece on a broken down Shark pattern at a recent tournament. This is where the ball earns it’s keep. Initially I was tentative about getting the ball to the spot. Once I trusted it and realized that I can aggressively open up my angles, I found that this ball not only gets to the spot and recovers, but it retains energy like no other ball I’ve thrown. Translation: It carries when I need to play the 5th arrow!

Primal Impulse

I was really looking forward to drilling this ball, knowing I would now have everything I need in my arsenal. This ball demonstrates a reaction that MOTIV has never offered before. Yes, this ball creates a very skid/flip reaction…it will get down the lane…and it will go sideways when it sees friction.

The Primal Impulse is similar in length to the QZ2 Back Draft, but it responds off the friction much, much stronger. The backend is not comparable to anything MOTIV currently offers, this ball can cover every board on the lane if necessary.  The Primal Impulse isn’t lane condition specific, but as long as you can find the friction, you will find yourself throwing this new ball from MOTIV.

My first session with the Primal Impulse was on a fresh house pattern with a synthetic surface. If you have a chance to look at my video you will agree, I wouldn’t even need to give another ball a look. For me, this ball is designed to really open up the lane or broken down conditions. The further I moved in and the further I got the ball out, the harder and more violent the ball would come back. I tend struggle when I play in deeper and cover too many boards, but this ball helped me get better entry angle, even with me being more up the back of the ball. I did a very aggressive layout as I create natural length with ball speed, there is a picture of the layout in my video.

You can see my video here:

The Primal Impulse is a great sidekick along with MOTIV’s benchmark ball, the Sigma Tour. If you are looking for a ball to open the lane up even more than the Sigma Tour, drill yourself a Primal Impulse!

   Primal Impulse,

‘Do you crave the Big Bend down the lane?’ If so, the Primal Impulse will be the ball for you. I value this ball so much, it is the new Benchmark ball in my bowling arsenal.  The Primal Impulse makes the decision as to what angle I will be playing very simple. This decision is crucial in any game, as the proper angle is the key to carrying corner pins. The Primal Impulse has also opened the lane up for me to strike from deep inside over and over again. The biggest key to this ball is that it never stops on the backend. In my opinion, this is the most release-friendly ball that Motiv has in their lineup.  I have never had a ball that I can miss at the bottom and still strike consistently. Another characteristic that sets this ball apart is the new Impulse Core, which  makes the ball effective for all types of bowlers.  If you are a bowler who appreciates being noticed on the lane, the bright coloring of the ball allows no one to miss it rolling down the lane. The Primal Impulse is perfect for the bowler who likes to have fun Ripping and Flipping the ball down the lane.  FYI:  Keep extra grips in your bag just in case you wear them down. In fact,  I believe Motiv should have a warning sign on the box saying you will need extra grips using the Primal Impulse….  This bowling season, my arsenal will be stacked with many different options thanks to the new Primal Impulse.

Likes: MOTIV fans and even our skeptics, get ready for the strongest performing MOTIV Ball yet. The MOTIV PRIMAL IMPULSE is designed for skid/flip and that is exactly what it does. The back end reaction is very strong and amazingly easy to control. This ball with give you all the area you desire and more mistake room that any ball I have ever thrown. I laid mine out pretty simple, the pin is just above the fingers with the CG 1/2 and inch out on the mid line of my span.

If you have been waiting for a skid/flip ball from Motiv, your dreams have been answered. If you like a ball that goes long on just about every lane condition, and turns left, this is the ball for you. This ball hits the pins like it's mad at them, has enough deflection to stay away from those stone 8's and 9's. Motiv equipment is famous for storing energy, this ball stores it's energy very very well. I have used this ball on fresh, fried and medium length international patterns with great results.  For me this ball is not pattern specific, if you feel like using it, DO IT, just float it to the spot and watch it go through the pin deck leaving nothing behind.

Likes: I had the opportunity to test this piece on several typical house shots in my local area. The Primal Impulse was more than capable of matching up to every one. I typically got into the track area between the second and third arrows and played a break point around the fifth board. I could play a more inside out shot than anything else I had in the bag. This is an awesome product for the stand left and throw right crowd (or in my case stand right, throw left) :-) I really like this ball in tandem with the Sigma Tour which is why i drilled my initial one so similar to my favorite Sigma (30 x 5.5 x 40 w/ double thumb extra hole). I also tested this piece on Kegel's Turnpike pattern. While I struggled a bit on the fresh, once the pattern broke down I switched to the Impulse and was able to play deep inside w/ no problem. Normally when I get deep on the pattern I begin to fight the early hook that is associated with the right handers' laydown. The Primal scooted through the early friction with my side roll release, picked up in the right spot, and continued through the pin deck. This will be a great ball/layout for later on in the blocks when the lane is providing all the fritction needed and more.

Dislikes: With any piece that is designed to skid/flip, it will most likely struggle on fresh oil and wet/dry. I took the surface down to 2000 and then tried 4000 with no polish and it did help some, but for me personally there are just better options for these conditions. Depending on the amount of oil, I will either start with the Raptor or Sigma Tour and switch to the Primal Impulse after a few games.

FLIP--Say it with me S-K-I-D FLIP..

If you dont have this in your MOTIV arsenal your truly missing out..

The All NEW Primal Impulse is the first true skid/flip ball produced by Motiv. This is the ball I've been waiting for providing just the right motion down lane off the friction. The continuation throgh the pins is incredible and I must say its color scheme is certainly an attention getter! This ball will give you the length you need with the LEFT TURN motion (turn signal not included !) desired !!!! From the benchmark Sigma tour and the oil devouring Raptor this ball fits in just the right spot and WILL provide you with the ever desired Skid FLip motion complementing your already AWESOME Arsenal...

Once again as always dont just take my word for it..Look for a MOTIV Demo Days in your area and Try it for yourself!

MOTIV Primal Impulse Review

MOTIV’s newest release is the Primal Impulse with a brand new core design wrapped in a smooth but aggressive shell.  This is the first skid/flip ball produced in the MOTIV line and it delivers!  I drilled two of these bad boys up and have been impressed from the start.  The first ball I drilled 35x55x4.75 placing the pin above my ring finger and kicking the cg right of the mid line with nearly 7/8 oz side weight.  This ball when thrown on the Kegel Winding Road sport pattern was smooth through the midlane and aggressive off the break point.  The first few shots the ball dove through the nose while trying to play 10 to 7.  I moved left and played 17 to 8 and the ball crushed the pocket.  The angularity off the break point was controlled due to the layout, but it didn’t limit the aggression the ball generates.  As the lane started to transition, I simply chased the pattern left and found I had more area right.  The one similarity between this layout and the other I’ll describe soon, is that there is little room for error left of target while bowling on this particular pattern and it holds true on house patterns as well.

The second Primal Impulse I drilled I used a 50x60x3.87 w/P2 hole.  This layout placed the pin below my ring finger causing the ball to get into the roll sooner and ultimately making the move off the break point more aggressive.  On the same Kegel pattern I mentioned earlier, I had to move 4 boards left playing 21 to 10 with this ball because of the aggressive nature of the layout.  I still had miss area right as I mentioned before, but if I missed left the ball didn’t hold pocket well.

Overall my review of the new MOTIV Primal Impulse is Excellent!  This has replaced my other equipment as the benchmark ball every time I lace up my shoes.  This ball is everything you would come to expect from MOTIV with the smooth roll through the midlane while maintaining a strong drive through the pins off the break point.  This is a must have for any MOTIV enthusiast or bowler…period!

The Primal Impulse is the first true "skid flip" ball from MOTIV. This ball is a welcome
sight for me and others.I have been waiting for a ball I could use to open up the lane
when the fronts became spotty and push started building up at the backends.

The Primal Impulse glides through the heads and the midlanes,.but when it hits the
back ends this ball really turns hard. The energy retention that is saved is by the
Primal Impulse is amazing. This ball had no problem on heavy carrydown.

The motion of the Primal Impulse let me move deeper than usual and send it
wider than usual and still watch is recover. There seems to be no place on the
lanes that it couldn't recover from.

On a fresh shot the Primal Impulse held it own  without any problem. When this
ball got down lane ,nothing was going to stop it from turning  left
.
On medium patterns the Primal never read the midlane too early or did it  display
any hook out.

This ball gave me another look that I have been waiting for. This dynamic skid/flip
motion is a must for any bowler wanting to open up the lane. This ball creates crazy
launch angles.
